With Beyond Light, Destiny 2 has received a new exotic sword – The Lament. A player has now discovered how this new weapon exotic can deal significant damage even without ammunition.
This weapon is about: It concerns the new exotic sword The Lament, which came as one of 5 new weapon exotics with the Beyond Light expansion into the game.
What you need to do for this sword can be found here: Get the new exotic sword “The Lament” – Here’s how the quest “Gigantic Expectations” works
What was discovered about the weapon: Normally, swords in Destiny 2 also require ammunition. While you can swing the blade without ammunition, it causes significantly less damage and is also slower—regardless of whether it’s a heavy or light attack.
The Lament is apparently an exception, at least for now. As Redditor and Destiny player Astrological_X has discovered and shared in the Raidsecrets subreddit, the heavy attack of The Lament also works without ammunition—but only with a trick.
How this works: If you perform the heavy attack with The Lament while jumping and hitting an opponent without ammunition, it deals damage as if you have heavy ammo available. In short: even without ammunition, you deal heavy damage with The Lament—in all modes and areas of Destiny 2.
That’s why Guardians now have to fear the exotic sword
Here’s what you need to be careful about: This trick can be quite useful in PvE and can help you in numerous situations, especially when ammunition runs out.
However, this trick is already being used in PvP as well. It works there too. You can take down a Guardian at full health with just one hit using this trick, as I, MeinMMO author Sven Galitzki, have already experienced myself.
Here’s how it looks in the Crucible:
So be cautious. Even early in the game and without a regular Heavy spawn, you can already be sent to the virtual beyond by a sword-wielder. So play a bit more carefully and keep this information in mind—especially if you’ve already encountered a sword-wielder in the match.
Should this be the case? Even though some may still be pondering and the sword offers some unique mechanics—no, most likely not. Some assume that it’s only a matter of time before this glitch gets fixed or the sword gets completely deactivated—especially with regard to PvP or Gambit.
Bungie itself has not commented on this yet, although in other comparable cases they responded quite quickly. The trick was also discovered before the recently released hotfix 3.0.0.4, but it was not fixed there.
It remains to be seen whether and when Bungie will address this discovery. Until then: Enjoy it in PvE and be careful in PvP. Because the trick is already being used actively there.
By the way, another thing has now been removed from the game. Let’s see if the sword trick meets the same fate: Loot Cave has disappeared again, players are already looking for the next one
