With Beyond Light, Destiny 2 will introduce so-called Master Weapons (Adept) in the Trials of Osiris. These are meant to provide additional incentives to fight your way to the lighthouse. Will that be enough?
What are the Adept Weapons? Even though many were excited about the return of the Trials in Season 10: for some, this crucible elite format still falls short of its potential. It cannot match the glory of old times in Destiny 1 to this day.
Bungie has also noticed this and now wants to bring back another element from the Destiny 1 Trials with the start of Season 12 and the Fall expansion Beyond Light – the Master Weapons. Unlike before, these come with some new aspects and are intended to motivate players to dive into the Trials and fight their way to the lighthouse.
What we know now about the Adept Weapons for the Trials
The Master Weapons – The essentials in brief: From Beyond Light, all weapons in the Trials of Osiris will receive a so-called Master or Adept version.
These now do not grant an additional perk, but when upgraded to a Masterwork grant additional stats (+10 on primary stat, +3 on the others) and can also use new Master Mods alongside regular weapon mods. These can only be applied to Master Weapons and will also come with the new season.
There are 2 types of Master Mods:
- one variant grants weapon stat boosts, each providing +10 to a specific stat (for example, Range +10)
- the other variant is a form of existing mods that offers an enhanced bonus but also brings a drawback (for example, +40 to magazine, -20 to handling)
There will also be a unique Master Shader for these weapons that does not work with other weapons or gear pieces.
You can only obtain these Master items at the lighthouse. Therefore, you need to achieve a flawless run and open the Flawless chest at the lighthouse.

Is that enough to lure players into the Trials?
This is how the Adept Weapons are received so far: The community has mixed feelings towards the presented Adept Weapons. On one hand, some are pleased that there is fresh loot and a truly special reward for a visit to the lighthouse.
On the other hand, many fear that this could create an even bigger gap between the hardcore elite and the rest of the players in the Trials. The best players could quickly have perfect guns, and no one would be able to compete with or catch up to them – such are the fears of some Guardians.
There are also players who found the Adept system from Destiny 1 more attractive. Or others fear that some of the Adept Weapons might also be the best choice for PvE, and many PvE Guardians will never be able to obtain them.
In general, however, some emphasize that Trials currently suffer from completely different issues that should be addressed before introducing new loot – for example, cheaters, bad connections, or the current meta and the state of some weapon classes.
