In Destiny 2, we now know who will succeed Cayde, who we were able to save during the big evacuation, and what happened to Rasputin.
The rumor persists that Destiny has no story. Countless story articles and entire YouTube channels focused on lore prove otherwise.
But one accusation the MMO shooter must endure: The story is told in a convoluted way, and sometimes storylines are left unresolved for years or players are tossed lore puzzle pieces that they must piece together themselves.
Fans and lore experts in the community are incessantly speculating, coming up with the wildest theories. Who will succeed Cayde and what will happen to the Warmind Rasputin has now been clarified in a quest.
This is what the quest is about: With the weekly reset on September 8, players were finally able to complete the major evacuation quest that players have been eagerly awaiting since the start of Season 11. These events are recorded in the lore book “Duress and Engress” (Duress and Engress).

The Great Evacuation Didn’t Go Quite According to Plan
During the evacuation due to the encroaching darkness in the form of pyramid ships, not all characters managed to reach the Tower safely:
- Sloane voluntarily stayed on Titan and, in Titan fashion, screamed to fend off the Hive when the pyramid ships began their attack.
- Asher Mir descended into the depths of the Pyramidion on Io and ensured that the darkness could not set foot in the Vex construct.
- Brother Vance left the Lighthouse on Mercury and encountered an alternative version of himself in the Infinite Forest – one of them was immediately brutally murdered.
- Ana Bray was able to safely leave Mars.
Whether Sloane and Asher died in their efforts is not entirely clear. However, with Ana’s escape, the questions regarding Cayde’s succession and Rasputin’s fate have been clarified.
Theory 1 – Will Cayde’s Killer Actually Be His Successor?
Who will be the new Hunter leader? When Uldren shot Cayde 2 years ago, a scream went through the community. The most popular Destiny character has been mourned since then, and his position as leader of the Hunters has been vacant since Forsaken. With Ana’s arrival at the Tower, the experienced hunter naturally speaks with Commander Zavala about succession.
Just as Ana is about to decline the position, she hears that she isn’t even considered for it. After all, she didn’t kill Cayde.
This confirms Zavala’s “Vanguard Dare,” a sort of bet or promise where surviving Hunters take on the leader’s position. Similarly, the former space pirate Cayde came to the job.
This seems to confirm the theory that Uldren will indeed be one of the good guys. Currently, Cayde’s killer wanders the Cosmodrome as a freshly awakened Guardian without memories.

Theory 2 – The Powerful Warmind Will Soon Learn to Walk
What about Rasputin? In Season 10, we were able to turn the dangerous Warmind AI to our side. With his help, the Last City was saved at the last second from an alien ship crashing from orbit.
Since then, the Warmind has lost many feathers and has been brought to the brink of extinction by the encroaching darkness. To save him, Ana has coded him into an Engram and came to the Tower with a mysterious, experimental Exo chassis.
This confirms what many lore experts have suspected for some time: Rasputin is getting a robot body. Whether he will become a standard Exo or still command the most powerful weapons from the Golden Age remains unclear.
