In Destiny 2 there are plenty of new weapons and exotics. Additionally, the weapon slots are being revamped.
Destiny 2 is primarily a shooter: This means everything revolves around weapons! As the Guardians lose all their items from Destiny 1 with Destiny 2, one of the most exciting questions was: What will Guardians use to shoot enemies in the future?
According to Luke Smith, a lot of new weapons, new armor, and brand new exotics have been created for Destiny 2. Some of these were shown during the gameplay premiere of Destiny 2 on May 18th, which we will embed further down in the article for you.
But not only are the weapons new, but also the weapon slots in Destiny 2.
These weapon slots you have in Destiny 2
Primary weapon, special weapon, and heavy weapon – these were the slots in Destiny 1. This system is being broken with Destiny 2. Now there are:
- a slot for the kinetic weapon
- a slot for an energy weapon
- and a slot for a power weapon.
Power weapons are considered firearms such as fusion rifles, sniper rifles, or grenade launchers (a new category of weapons).
In the kinetic slot and the energy slot, the same types of weapons are used. The only difference: In the energy slot, they deal elemental damage. Here you use, for example, pistols, hand cannons, or SMGs, which are now confirmed. Here is a hand cannon with solar damage in the energy slot:
Here is an SMG with solar damage:
The power weapons also have elemental damage, like this void grenade launcher:
Interesting: In the weapon stats, the rate of fire is now shown below the bar display and is given as a concrete number. Additionally, a new stat called “Handling” is introduced.
This restructuring is intended to give Guardians more options and freedom to create builds and play with the types of weapons they like. Fans of hand cannons can, for example, equip hand cannons in both slots.
Exotics in Destiny 2
Exotic weapons are also present in Destiny 2. This is the exotic hand cannon “Sunshot”, which according to the perks is about explosions and “solar energy”:
An exotic SMG was also playable at the gameplay premiere. It is called “Risk Runner”, deals arc damage, and regenerates ammunition when you are under fire. Here you see this new weapon type in action:

A new weapon manufacturer is coming
As the “Destiny 2 Project Lead” Mark Noseworthy announced via Twitter, a new weapon manufacturer is coming alongside Suros, Omolon, Häkke, and Tex Mechanica. This one is called Veist. On the official Destiny page, images of some weapons were presented, with those featuring a silver-greenish design being weapons from Veist.
Screenshots of new weapons
During the gameplay premiere, many more weapons were shown, of which we will now embed screenshots:
Interesting: The lost “Dubious Volley” rocket launcher, which was already discovered in the databases of Destiny 1, is clearly visible in footage of Destiny 2: What do you think of all these innovations in weapons?
