Destiny 2 nerfs your best weapons in the “never-ending search for balance”

Season 14 of Destiny 2 is starting soon, and Bungie is now showing some harsh nerfs that you should prepare for. Hand cannons, shotguns, and swords are in for some changes.

What you should expect: Season 14, which is still unnamed, will start on May 11, 2021, in Destiny 2. The MMO shooter will receive new content as well as numerous balance adjustments. Bungie has now given a preview of some harsh nerfs that are in store for many of your favorite weapons.

Bungie wants to communicate the changes to swords, hand cannons, shotguns, and strong perks early, so you can prepare for them. They will talk about buffs in April that will also come in Season 14.

MeinMMO lists the most important nerfs. We explain why this is happening and why it’s the revenge of the weapon standby.

Why do we say nerf? When something is nerfed in a game, it becomes worse than it was before. This is supposed to relate to the toy weapons of the company NERF, which fire foam projectiles that do not harm anyone (via esports.com). After a nerf, players have safer (or less harmful) weapons or skills at their disposal.
The opposite of a nerf is a buff. A buffed item is represented as stronger after the patch. This refers to the English word “to buff,” meaning “to polish something.”

Destiny 2 reveals the nerfs you will have to live with in Season 14

What happens to hand cannons: Guardians have preferred to run around with revolvers for years. Hand cannons are almost always meta in PvP. However, the dominant 120s are now getting nerfed:

  • The distance at which damage and aim assist reduction starts will be reduced by 2 to 4 meters (depending on range stat).
  • This effectively partially reverses the range buff that 120s received in “Beyond Light”.

The slowly firing 120s have only recently become meta, since their range was significantly increased in November 2020. Representatives like The Last Dollar, Igneous Hammer, or Storm have quickly risen to become some of the most popular primary weapons in PvP. One shot could take half of an opponent’s health, quickly ducking for cover, all from absurd distances – that is (or was) the playstyle of revolvers.

For the currently best 120, Guardians grind through a previously unpopular playlist:
