In Destiny 2 can two weapons cause fear and terror, but that might soon change: Bungie has announced a nerf that will take effect next week.
What is being nerfed? As the “Bungie Help” channel announced on Twitter, the linear fusion rifles will be adjusted with a hotfix on November 8, 2022.
- In PvP, the flinch from recoil and the time to stabilize are being increased.
- Additionally, the aim assist cone for special ammo is being reduced.
- In PvE, however, the stabilization time is being reduced.
According to Bungie, these changes come a bit too early, as they were originally intended for the start of Season 19. This is scheduled to launch on December 6, 2022 – now the nerf is set for next Tuesday, a whole month earlier. More detailed patch notes are expected to follow then.
Overall, however, the nerf is likely to please many players in PvP in Destiny 2, as two weapons that are considered overpowered in PvP fall under the linear fusion rifles: the Lorentz Driver and the Arbalest.
Will the Lorentz Driver and Arbalest become weaker now?
What kind of weapons are these? Both the Lorentz Driver and the Arbalest are regarded as very powerful in Destiny 2’s PvP – perhaps too powerful, as it’s not the first time that the two weapons are being adjusted. For both weapons, for instance, the flinch was previously increased back in February 2022.
Nevertheless, Lorentz Driver and Arbalest could spread fear and terror in PvP. The accusation mainly revolves around the fact that, like snipers, they can inflict very high damage without requiring precision (via reddit).
The aim assist has been heavily criticized, as the weapons provide too much reward for too little skill (via reddit). “It’s about usability. Lorentz is much easier to use than a sniper. Sniper rifles are still great, but few people can exploit their full potential. Lorentz is also great, but most people can use its full potential with minimal effort,” summarizes a user (via reddit).
The discussion about the weapons has been ongoing for a long time. For example, in December 2021, a clip circulated in which the Lorentz Driver apparently got kills without hitting.
Bungie seems to want to work on such issues as quickly as possible, and among other things, they are adjusting the strength of aim assist on linear fusion rifles. Whether that will be enough to weaken the weapons in PvP remains to be seen, especially next Tuesday when the adjustments go live.
What do you think about the change? Do you see the nerf positively, or do you still like using the weapons? Let us know in the comments!
