Titans in Destiny 2 are laughing again, especially when they wield the ‘little hammer’ as Sunbreakers. Despite the nerf, the Exotic ‘Wormgod’s Shroud’ with the small Titan throwing hammer is still too strong. With the right buff stack and exotic, even strong enemies can be taken out with just a few hits. Something Bungie has supposedly fixed multiple times already.
Time and again, the immense damage output of the Titan Exotic ‘Wormgod’s Shroud’ has been on the nerf radar. It had to be disabled and reworked twice by Bungie due to problems with the small throwing hammer. But it seems Wormgods have a mind of their own.
- In January 2020, Bungie stepped in for the first time and disabled the Exotic ‘Wormgod’s Shroud’ after Titans could deal six times the damage with the small hammer.
- In August 2021, Titans were overpowered again. Bungie stepped in once more and disabled the Exotic ‘Wormgod’s Shroud’ again for a rework.
- On December 7, 2021, Bungie made another adjustment to the Exotic in the major Anniversary Update 3.4.0 and reduced ability damage when ‘Roaring Flames’ and the exotic perk ‘Wormgod’s Shroud’ are active.
The little hammer still packs a punch: Apparently, the triple nerf hasn’t gone far enough yet. Because evidently, the small throwing hammer is still able to melt a boss with the right buff stack and the fitting Exotic (‘Wormgod’s Shroud’ or ‘Synthoceps’). How well this still works is shown by more and more videos from the community. The little hammer continues to clear out everything in Gambit or the dungeon effortlessly with exotic support.
After the adjustments, players can no longer deal mega damage directly. However, it still seems possible to break the damage cap of 999,999 in Destiny 2 when timing and loadout are right.
With Atheon, even 3 throws with the small throwing hammer, the Exotic ‘Wormgod’s Shroud’ and the exotic pistol ‘Traveler’s Chosen’ are enough:
This combination makes buff stacking so easy: Since the separation of charged and uncharged melee attacks, Guardians can assign their melee settings to separate buttons. This way, the throwing hammer can be thrown from up close and picked up again immediately. This stacks the buff for ‘Roaring Flames’ and the intrinsic perk of ‘Wormgod’s Shroud’. ‘Synthoceps’ also work well with the small hammer.
This also increases damage: With a double-punch shotgun and the Exotic Tractor Cannon, you can further increase damage.
- ‘Double-Punch’ increases melee damage for a short time.
- ‘Repulsor Force’ of the Tractor Cannon additionally weakens enemies and makes them more vulnerable to all damage.
With this combination, it becomes possible to deal about 9x more melee damage with the small throwing hammer (Titan melee attack at the code of the devastator).
Is Bungie planning another deactivation of the Exotic? It is currently unclear whether another nerf for the Exotic and the Titan’s melee is planned. Bungie has been less active over the holidays. It’s possible that Guardians will have to wait until the new year for a statement and possible adjustments. Until then, Titans can play the build and try out how silly it is to kill bosses in Destiny 2 with a little hammer.
Despite all the challenges, Destiny 2 remains a bestseller on Steam:
Have you already tried this throwing hammer build yourself? What do you think, why can’t Bungie tame this Exotic? Is a ‘Worm Exorcism’ necessary here? Let us know your opinion in the comments.
