From Destiny 2 Lightfall became Titanfall yesterday. Bungie did not overdo it with the new beginning and published a whole book of patch notes. Among them, a particularly nasty nerf that took away the last reason for many titans to play their class. MeinMMO tells you why.
This Exotic is being nerfed in Lightfall: The Titan class is not having an easy time in Destiny 2 right now. First, Bungie drives them into an identity crisis with the releases of the new subclass “Strand”. Reducing their existence in the game again to their fists.
Now, during the server downtime in the official patch notes from Bungie, there is a note that the exotic chest armor “Heart of the Inner Light” will be heavily nerfed in Lightfall. It was one of the most versatile titan exotics that was particularly popular among many players in skill-oriented builds.
This is what the Lightfall nerf changes about the Exo: The good news is that the damage bonuses of the titan Exo “Heart of the Inner Light” will remain roughly the same. Nevertheless, it has been hit hard and is therefore nearly useless in PvE.
- Before the servers were taken down, the exotic chest armor granted a class regeneration buff of 150% in PvE activities and 38% in PvP.
- After the changes, it drops to 25% in both PvE and PvP activities.
- In addition to this massive decline, the buff duration for empowered abilities in PvE decreased from 10 to 5 seconds.
Thus, not much of the old light remains. This adjustment will make it much more difficult for titans to receive and maintain the 2-fold empowerment bonus of the Exo. In addition, the overall amount of bonus ability energy will also be reduced.
This means that titans will probably have to do without the exotic they could previously use effortlessly with any subclass build in Lightfall.
However, the fast ability regeneration seems to have been the decisive factor for the nerf decision in Lightfall. It was just too strong, and the titans knew it. After all, they could use their skill-oriented builds almost endlessly, being not only more resilient but also dealing more damage.
Players should also consider that the significant weakening of “Heart of the Inner Light” in Lightfall is further compounded by general changes to ability economy. Bungie had already opened another adjustment in a blog post.
- Essentially, the regeneration of a level 10 stat now corresponds roughly to that of a level 8 in the previous system.
In combination with the two changes, ability-based titans may soon need to fundamentally revise their builds.
Titans feel unfairly treated
After the big “Titanfall” in the patch notes, many titans were offended and felt disadvantaged. Although they also acknowledge that their ability-based Exo was simply too good. This is because other classes also have ability-based exotics, but Bungie has not announced a nerf for these exotics.
The player Shooshadoo_XD via reddit writes: “I don’t know how you can nerf [Heart of the Inner Light] without also nerfing “Starfire Protocol” or buffing other titan exotics since we have the highest number of unfun […] exotics.”
Even well-known Destiny 2 players like Saltagreppo, recently criticized for advocating the nerf of Divinity, also considers this adjustment to be good and justified. However, he also wonders about the omission of adjustments to other ability exotics.
The nerf of Heart of the Inner Light is good, but nerfing this exo while leaving out the Starfire Protocol [of Warlocks] or Wyrmhide [of Hunters] is wild. […] These two are probably much more problematic. Especially since Heart of the Inner Light has already become less powerful due to scaling and changes to character stat values.

Are there alternatives? Titans now need to think about how to regain brilliance in their class in Lightfall without using the effectiveness of a heart from light. Other neutral exotics for skill-oriented builds would be, for example, the “Mask of the Quiet” or for Solar the “Holy Fire Heart” exotic.
- With the “Mask of the Quiet,” titans gain ability energy when taking damage. Those who are mortally wounded gain maximum health on kills.
- “Holy Fire Heart” improves the reload rate of solar abilities by 75% and significantly improves it by 350% when the super is charged. Additionally, it grants +20 to the “effectiveness in air” stat of all weapons.
- Passive cooldown gains will yield lower returns compared to the previous sandbox.
Were you planning to use the exotic in Lightfall? And what do you think of the nerf? Was it justified? Feel free to leave us a comment as long as Destiny 2 is still in downtime.
