If you want Mods for your armor and weapons in Destiny 2, you need either luck and time or a lot of Mod components in Year 2. We will show you 2 methods to get Mod components with little effort.
With the Forsaken expansion, the Mod system in Destiny 2 was revised. Since then, Mods have become rarer. They can only be obtained by dismantling corresponding equipment that already contains Mods or in exchange for Mod components at the gunsmith.
However, if you want to purchase Mods from the gunsmith, you need a lot of Mod components – 10 per Mod. Here’s how to get the components.
How to farm Mod components in Destiny 2
There is no really direct way to obtain Mods or Mod components. Here, playtime and the RNG factor play a major role.
However, clever guardians have found ways to reliably obtain Mod components with relatively little effort and thus stock up on Mods at least from the gunsmith.
Method 1 to farm Mod components in Destiny 2
The first farming method is based on the fact that Mod components can drop with a certain probability when dismantling rare (blue) items from Year 1. You need enough Glimmer and Gunsmith materials.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Clear all 9 special slots in your guardian’s inventory
- Now go to the collections and find a blue energy weapon. The grenade launcher Rough Language is perfect for this. It costs you 250 Glimmer and 3 materials each.
- Buy 9 of this grenade launcher
- Dismantle all 9 copies
- This gives you an average of 1-2 Mod components
You can repeat this as often as you want until you run out of resources or have gathered enough Mod components. Additionally, you get back 125 Glimmer and 2 Gunsmith components per dismantled weapon. So, on average, a Mod component will cost you 1,125 Glimmer and 9 Gunsmith materials.
Method 2 to farm Mod components in Destiny 2
The second method that many guardians swear by focuses on level ups with Brother Vance on Mercury. However, it largely depends on what the vendor Spider has available from the Tangled Shore.
Here’s what you need to do:
- If Spider has Simulation Seeds, the destination materials of Mercury, buy as many as you can. Ideally several hundred.
- Then fly to Brother Vance and redeem all Simulation Seeds with him. This will rank you up with him.
- For rank-ups, Brother Vance will reward you with legendary Year 1 gear – often even as a Masterwork.
- Dismantle all items you receive from Vance. You’ll get more Mod materials and some Masterwork cores – a nice side effect.
- As with the first method, you get back a large portion of the legendary shards and Glimmer you spent on the Simulation Seeds.
