The Iron Banner armor of Season 9 from Destiny 2 is initially hidden behind a quest. One of the steps is perceived as particularly annoying by many and has therefore been widely criticized. Bungie has now tackled this specific step – with a somewhat unusual solution.
What is the quest about? If you want to earn the current Iron Banner sets of the Season 9, Destiny 2 will first send you on a multi-part quest.
The individual armor pieces must first be unlocked in various steps before they can be obtained from other sources through the Iron Banner.
You will need to complete various tasks, such as
- Capturing zones
- Eliminating enemies with the super
- Completing Iron Banner matches
- or achieving final blows with various weapon types
The quest step “Iron Rain” has drawn a lot of criticism since the start of the quest, as many are annoyed by a specific requirement – namely the 10 rocket launcher kills.
This is going to change: This criticism has not gone unheard. As the developers announced in the current “This Week at Bungie” blog, there will be an adjustment to this step after evaluating player feedback – and it will be a radical one.
Unfortunately, they were unable to change the quest requirements. Therefore, the part of the quest that requires rocket launcher kills will be automatically fulfilled for all Guardians who have not yet completed it. This now gives them time to consider altering or removing this step for the next season.
What exactly was annoying about the quest? Specifically, for many players, it is that for Iron Rain, among other things, 10 rocket launcher kills must be achieved. This proves to be quite challenging for some Guardians, costs a lot of time and nerves – even for players who are not (anymore) stuck on this step.
Because this led to many players camping for Heavy Ammo and not playing the match properly. Many tried to do this at the same time, causing entire teams to be taken out at the ammo spawns. All this made winning incredibly difficult when playing on the “wrong” team. Even getting the ammo was not always easy.
Additionally, players were often eliminated by enemy rockets because it felt like everyone was using them. Furthermore, only your own kills counted towards progression. Therefore, many often did not even have the chance to get a rocket launcher kill before they were taken out, according to complaints from numerous Guardians.
Some reported needing 15 matches or more just for this step to finally progress in the quest. In short: Many Guardians were or are greatly annoyed by this step and its effects on the game.
When does the next Iron Banner come? Bungie has already commented on this as well. The January Iron Banner will start with the upcoming Weekly Reset on Tuesday, January 21, and will last until January 28. During this time, there will be a valor bonus.
What do you think of this solution? A cool gesture or do you think the studio overreacted?
