In Destiny 2, players could finally explore the expansion Witch Queen after a long wait. We took the opportunity to directly ask you how you found your first hours in Witch Queen. The survey has now been evaluated, and we found that you largely agree.
What is the survey about? The Throne World has taken a long time to arrive. Players were understandably skeptical before the release of the new expansion. Would Bungie be able to meet the high expectations? Over the past years, Destiny 2 has never really been bad, but it also had its ups and downs.
With Bungie’s announcement that “2022 will bring more Destiny than ever before” and that it “will be one of the most ambitious releases we have ever assembled,” it was a strong statement. Many Guardians found it hard to believe. That’s why we were particularly curious about your experiences.
We wanted to know how you feel about the launch and asked: How were your first hours in Witch Queen?
In total, 1,419 readers participated on MeinMMO (as of 01.03.2022, 11:00 AM), and the results of the poll turned out to be quite clear.
Witch Queen had a solid and strong start. The content clearly excited you as well, with 58.91% of the votes finding their first hours in the new DLC “great.”
This is how the remaining votes are distributed:
- 18.39% voted for a solid “good.”
- 5.36% found the first hours in Bungie’s new DLC “okay.”
- Only 2.40% felt that the expansion was “not so good.”
- And only 2.33% found Witch Queen absolutely “terrible.”
The remaining players, 12.61%, had not yet logged into Witch Queen and could therefore not give a personal assessment at the time of the survey.
Our community speaks out
Of course, as always, we read through your numerous comments (thank you for that). Also, the fact that you have continued to give us your feedback after the release, indicating what you liked and what you didn’t like.
Many readers expressed positive thoughts about the new DLC: For example, Destiny 2 player “KingK” on MeinMMO stated that Witch Queen is even better than the campaign of “The Taken King.”
I have no idea how Bungie managed it, but that was the best main campaign in the entire Destiny universe. Yes, you heard that right, even Oryx would be jealous! The Taken King campaign can’t hold a candle to this. A hardcore piece of work has been delivered here.
MeinMMO reader “Motzi” also finds the expansion solid, with only the changes in Gambit being useless. He also noticed the visual details that came into the game with Witch Queen, which were also announced by Bungie.
The campaign was a lot of fun on legendary. The slightly higher challenge made the reward feel earned at the end of each mission. Visually, everything looks very good; there seems to have been a little fine-tuning regarding graphics. The new weapons and perks need some getting used to, but at first glance, there are some really nice things included.
But there was also criticism: After the initial speechless moments over the grand story that Bungie continues with surprising insights in Witch Queen, the technical view of our readers returned.
The first features were tested after a few days, and it showed that some places still need fine-tuning. For example, “no12playwith2k3” on MeinMMO wrote:
I have to walk back on my initial opinion just a few days after release. The seasonal activities are the same as before. […] The new patrol area is large but still not filled with enough life. I hope the weapon crafting will keep me engaged. […]
The poor drop rates of some weapons and the artificial material caps currently dampen the crafting experience, so players are already seeking other ways to save materials.
Player “Selfbush” wrote in his comment on MeinMMO that Bungie essentially just copied the pickaxe from Fortnite with the glaive. He also sees the costs for the new DLC “The Witch Queen” as inappropriate money-making.
Spending 80 € every time for a new expansion… That’s insane. Other games are now free and available for everyone. Even without PS Plus!
Bungie is already collecting your feedback
Bungie is trying to take as much feedback as possible into account and regularly asks on Twitter about the “well-being” of the Guardians. They hope that players will express their wishes so the team can respond. The first feedback on Gambit’s fine-tuning has already been addressed.
- Bungie is examining the consumption rates of heavy ammunition and weapons in Gambit, the invasion frequency, and during the Primeval phase, the course of health and healing.
- Joe Blackburn, Bungie Game Director, personally addressed the issues with the low drop rates in the new activity “Primeval.”
Players have also suggested further fine-tuning beyond the identified issues that they would like to see in the future:
- Paul Tassi pointed out to Bungie that the many red frames around the new resonance weapons drive him crazy. He wishes for a gold border for fully formed weapons so he can better distinguish them.
- Content creator “Datto” and player “Spyder” talked to Bungie about the costs for the new weapon perks. Already purchased improved traits and perks for a weapon should not need to be bought again.
The coming weeks will show what Bungie will polish up for you in Witch Queen. Or as Cayde-6 would have said: “Stay tuned for an upgrade.”
Were you surprised by the results of the survey, or was it clear to you that players had high expectations? What do you think? Will Destiny 2 be able to maintain this level in the upcoming seasons and expansions?
