In Destiny 2 there are now Masterworks. How to get Masterwork weapons and Masterwork cores and what makes these weapons unique is explained here.
On December 12, 2017, Bungie introduced Masterwork weapons. These are better legendary weapons that are supposed to make the loot in the endgame more exciting. In Year 2, Bungie changed the weapon system and also revamped how Masterwork weapons function.
How Masterworks work in Destiny 2 Forsaken:
- Each weapon has 10 Masterwork levels. This means there is up to +10% on a random stat, and for hand cannons, range is now also possible. At level 10, you receive the complete Masterwork.
- Upgrades cost Masterwork cores, Glimmer, and Legendary shards. To reach level 10, you need a total of 10,000 Glimmer, 27 Legendary shards, and 17 Masterwork cores.
- At level 7, you get a kill counter, which allows you to switch freely between PvP and PvE at any time.

Locations of Masterwork Weapons – Here’s how to get them
To obtain Masterwork weapons directly, you need one thing above all: luck. You can get them from all sources from which you also receive normal legendary weapons. However, the chances that the legendary drop is a Masterwork are quite low.
You can reliably obtain Masterworks by upgrading legendary weapons level by level. The most challenging aspect is obtaining the necessary Masterwork cores.
Finding Masterwork Cores
This is how you obtain Masterwork cores in Forsaken:
- You can buy Masterwork cores from Spider – the new NPC in the Tangled Shore. The first core costs you 10 legendary shards. Note that the price of each subsequent core doubles after the first purchase. However, the price resets every day at 7 PM. It is advisable to acquire one to two Masterwork cores from Spider daily.
- You receive Masterwork cores by dismantling legendary Masterwork weapons or armor.
- Masterwork armor from Year 1 always gives you one core when dismantled. Year 1 Masterwork weapons grant you one to two cores when dismantled.
- After reaching character level 50, obtaining Masterwork cores in Forsaken becomes somewhat easier. When dismantling high-level legendary Year 2 items that already have some Masterwork levels, there is a chance for Masterwork cores – even if the respective items are not yet fully upgraded to Masterwork (level 10). According to player reports, the chance for cores increases with the Masterwork level of the item.
- If you use the consumable “Finest Material Weave”, there is a chance that a Masterwork core drops upon defeating a boss. However, the buff lasts only until the drop. You receive the rare item randomly when dismantling legendary gear.
