In Destiny 2, the Masterwork armor will soon be introduced. This comes with two benefits, but also a bug.
Since mid-December, you can hunt for Masterworks – these are better and rarer versions of legendary weapons that grant special bonuses. Each Masterwork weapon has an additional random perk that allows you to customize the weapon a bit.
Masterworks are rare items that you can grind for a long time if you want to optimize your Guardian. And now, Masterworks will be expanded with Masterwork armor.
How do you get Masterwork armor?
The Masterwork armor will be added to the loot pool on January 30. From then on, it can drop in the endgame (from Power Level 250). Every legendary armor piece you obtain has a chance to be a Masterwork.
To acquire the Masterwork armor, you mainly need luck. It can drop from all sources of legendary items, with higher chances in Trials and raid activities than, for example, from engrams from Lord Shaxx or the weapon master.
There is one exception: All raid Masterworks can only be obtained as raid drops. They are not available via engrams or directly purchasable from the raid vendor.
By dismantling Masterworks, you obtain Masterwork shards. With enough Masterwork shards, you can upgrade the existing armor you already own to Masterworks. This costs 5 shards and 20 legendary shards:
What can the Masterwork armor do in Destiny 2?
These are the bonuses of the Masterwork armor:
Each Masterwork armor piece grants +3% damage resistance when you have an active Super. If you fill all 5 armor slots with Masterworks, this damage reduction can reach up to +15%. You will be able to withstand more while in your Super.
The stats on Masterwork armor can be rerolled. This costs you one Masterwork shard and 10 legendary shards each:With this, you can change the armor stats of Resilience, Mobility, and Recovery.
However, there is a bug in this rework process that Bungie noticed late in development and cannot fix until the update with the Masterwork armor is deployed.
This bug occurs when you reroll the Masterwork armor in quick succession: The bar that indicates the item is being rerolled will fill up, but nothing happens with the armor. The Masterwork retains the previous stat and no shards are consumed. It is a UI bug. If the problem occurs for you, you should try again later.
The issue is currently being investigated and will be fixed in the future.
According to Community Manager Cozmo, this is merely the first version of Masterwork armors. The system is set to be expanded in the future with additional bonuses.
