This week, Guardians in Destiny 2 can once again make a sacrifice and meet Mara Sov. What she has to say this time may confuse some players.
What happened? With the Weekly Reset on January 29, it was once again time for players to work on a sacrifice and visit the Oracle in the Dreaming City. Once again, the Queen of the Awoken, Mara Sov, invited players for an audience.
However, this week she had no new holograms to show, but certainly had much more to say. While players who have just started with Destiny 2 may have puzzled over her words, Destiny 1 players may have had a small light bulb moment with the Queen’s words.
Attention: The following lines contain spoilers for the current visit with the Queen. If you have not yet completed this and do not want to know about the story, you should not read further.
What does the Queen say? This week we meet Mara Sov on her throne. She speaks about how light and darkness must always be in balance. Then she talks about a friend she dreamed of having in the future who told her that one should always choose a side.
Why is this important? Mara Sov uses very similar words in her monologue that the Exo Stranger had already used in Destiny 1. Translated, the Queen says:
If there is too much darkness in the universe, light must drive it away. And if there is too much light, darkness must overshadow it. This truth is our burden. That is what it means to be an Awoken.
I dreamed of a friend I will have. She will tell me: One should always choose a side. Even if it is the wrong side. I think I will like her.
In Destiny 1, the Exo Stranger guided us on our path to the Black Garden. There, Guardians were to fight the dark heart located in the center of the garden.

When the Stranger could not help us find the garden, our Ghost suggested visiting the Awoken of the Reef. A video of the meeting with the Stranger can be found here. Translated, the Stranger had this to say to the Awoken:
Ah yes. The Awoken. Out there, they waver between light and darkness. One should always choose a side, little light. Even if it is the wrong side.
What could this mean? Perhaps the Exo Stranger will still play a role in the story of Destiny 2. The last official comment on that character came from Luke Smith, who said that the storyline with the Stranger was concluded.
After this statement, however, it was revealed in the DLC Warmind that the Stranger is Elsie Bray, Ana Bray’s sister.
On the other hand, the Queen’s statement could also just be a small highlight for Destiny 1 players.

What does the community say? This small reminder of Destiny 1 is well-received by the players. Many Guardians have directly linked the Queen’s words to the Exo Stranger and are now speculating whether the character might be related to the story about the Dreaming City.
This has led to the theory that Mara Sov sent the Stranger in Destiny 1 to find us and lead us to the Awoken. A clue for the connection between the two characters seems to be that Mara disappears during her current visit with a similar effect as the Exo did in Destiny 1.
Did you think of the Exo Stranger during your visit with Mara? What do you think the character could have to do with the story of Destiny 2?
