Destiny 2 makes my favorite class boring – That’s why I became a healer

In Destiny 2 there are three classes, all of which find their place in the game. However, when it comes to end-game, one completely fails. MyMMO author Christos explains to you why the most popular class is actually selfish and why he wished it were different.

I have been playing Destiny since the first installment. I have accumulated over 3000 play hours in Destiny 2 alone. During that time, I spent my time with raids, the Nightfall, dungeons, or normal group activities.

So I have been observing this scene for quite a while, and one class particularly annoys me.

The Hunter is a selfish character, and everyone who plays him is too. But that is not your fault; it’s Bungie’s. Don’t get me wrong, the Hunter is arguably the coolest class in the game.

Hunters have the best movement and look particularly stylish. Many of their options even belong to the best and most popular classes in Destiny 2 – even though one of their specializations takes the last place.

With their long capes, the Hunter appears powerful and mysterious at the same time. However, the problem lies simply with their super abilities that they have at their disposal. These are completely tailored for their own use. Whether it’s the Golden Gun or the Stasis super. No matter the super – all focus on add-clear or DPS, not on the well-being of your teammates.

Sure, there are tanks, healers, and damage dealers in this form within Destiny 2, but does the Hunter have to stereotypically follow the path of the DD?

Even the new Stasis super has helped the Hunter very little.

A Brief Look at the Other Classes

Let’s take a look at the Warlock and Titan. Both seem primarily peculiar. Their movement is not optimal, and they often appear too sluggish or even slowing down.

However, when it comes to their abilities, they are superior to the Hunter. What do they have that the Hunter doesn’t?

They possess super abilities that are essential for your team. They can fill in for any situation. Whether you need a Chaos Reach or a Thunder Crash for massive damage, or a bubble and a well for healing or protection. The Titan and the Warlock can take on any role.

The Hunter, on the other hand, has no way to support his teammates. He can only make you invisible or provide orbs of light with his arrows, but unfortunately, that’s not enough. He neither offers a damage buff nor an overshield that is transferred to all team members.

We are not talking about a wise Warlock acting as a pure paladin of light who can heal you. Or a Titan with such a protective instinct that defies all adversities just to protect his beloved Guardians.

This is how protective Titans can act. Hunters lack that.

No, we are talking about a Hunter who, as described in the lore, is a wanderer. A solo player and not a team player. Bungie has implemented this well, but for this reason, the Hunter lovers have to deal with it now.

When looking at raid teams, everyone is welcome – except Hunters. They are not favored in raids, as their abilities do not offer advantages. Who needs a Golden Gun with heavenly Night Hawks nowadays when you can have a Titan with Thunder Crash that hits its target more often than the Hunter.

How often I messed up my shot as a Hunter in raids, because the slightest stutter knocked me off my shot path. Most of the time, I was then quiet and hopeful that no one would notice this embarrassing situation.

But I was also one of the Guardians who wanted to finish everything with their Hunters despite the disadvantages. Yet after endless hours as a Hunter in raids and other end-game activities, I decided to switch to the Warlock.

I have always wanted to be a helper and not the one dealing the most damage. I like the idea of offering support to each of my teammates. I have always wanted to be a supporter. Thanks to the healing grenades and the exotic “Boots of the Innovator”, I can help everyone, willingly or unwillingly.

That’s what it’s about in Destiny 2. Standing together against the darkness and not alone. However, I only realized that after years of active playing. Unfortunately, the Hunter did not offer me that.

The Hunter Could Be More …

I wish that Bungie changes something about the Hunter’s ultimates here. By that, I do not mean another bubble or well in the Hunter style, but rather think in different dimensions. The Hunter does not need to distribute healing.

He could provide anyone in his vicinity with enhanced sight using the Nightstalker super. With that, you could then see enemies through walls and gain an extended radar. Furthermore, you could introduce a super effect “Strength of the Pack,” which grants you an increased ability charge rate and deals more damage while grouping together.

However, the Hunter could also generate a stationary force field by slamming his Arc staff into the ground. This way, all enemy projectiles would bounce off, and players can shoot through it, just like with the Ursa tactic from the Titan.

There is a lot of creative room here to let one’s imagination run free. The Hunter has so much potential that is not fully utilized.

… but it shouldn’t

However, with the Hunter, only DPS, add control, or add clear is valued. Why shouldn’t a Hunter bring support to the team in his own way through supportive super abilities? There are no concrete plans for that.

However, there is a glimmer of hope. In the “Witch Queen” expansion, Bungie wants to reshape all light ultimates in the pattern of the Stasis supers. This way, you could mix your perks just like in Destiny 1. You can choose your aspects and freely combine them without following a preset pattern.

One of the most popular characters from Destiny 2 was also a Hunter – Cayde-6. Nevertheless, the class receives little love.

Whether Bungie takes the time to give the outdated abilities a new polish is unknown. But this would be the perfect opportunity. The development team is currently testing many features anyway, like in the Trials labs.

They want to get the best for the community. Refreshing the super abilities would not be wrong if they took a deeper look at their respective functions. This way, they could at least guarantee the Hunter some relevance for end-game content.

Enough from me, what do you think of the Hunter? Do you agree with me and want him to be adjusted? Or do you think he is best as he is now? Let us know in the comments.

The Hunter is not the only controversial topic in Destiny 2. Weapons, which of course play an important role, are also frequently hotly debated. In particular, the 5 unpopular exotics in Destiny 2 that desperately need a revamp.
