The past weekend turned everything upside down in Destiny 2. Today’s update is supposed to straighten a lot of things out. MeinMMO tells you when Bungie plans to take the servers offline and what else has been announced.
08:15 PM: Unfortunately, the game is still not running smoothly after maintenance. Players are reporting increased error codes and are being kicked from the game. Bungie Help is investigating the errors causing an increase in error codes CURRANT, COCONUT, WEASEL, and CENTIPEDE.
07:00 PM: The servers are back online. The update replaced the selection of shells and perks for exotic and legendary weapons. The illegal weapon perks have also been exchanged.
04:15 PM: Destiny 2 is now offline.
03:00 PM: The maintenance has started in the background. Players now have 1 hour and 15 minutes left before Destiny 2 goes into downtime.
What you need to know today: A big statement from Bungie is that they want Destiny 2 to have moments you remember from when you played it. Last weekend in Season 22 was such a moment.
- After a crazy exploit made the rounds, guardians could create various “overweapons” that could obliterate everything in seconds.
- For some players, it was hell and a complete ruin of the competition, as anyone could now achieve everything and playfully collect the toughest triumphs.
- Other guardians, on the other hand, had the time of their lives and took it easy. Being able to build a “super weapon” and finally breeze through the game was the coolest thing for them.
The Warlock player and Global Social Media Lead at Bungie Griffin Bennet summed it up perfectly when he said: “When life gives you lemons, make a new lemon that shoots exploding lemons.“
In the meantime, however, most of the exploit is already over, as Bungie’s support team has been working on several solutions and has already partially brought these into the game.
Today’s update will bring further corrections and even some date shifts, as Destiny 2 was still plagued by a stubborn error code hiccup after the changes.
Maintenance on 09/19 – All times for server downtime
While the number of players in Destiny 2 has fluctuated by about 80,000 in recent weeks, they broke the 100,000 mark on September 16 during this crazy weekend. However, this also has an impact on the current gameplay.
These dates have now been postponed: The error caused excitement not only among the players. Everything was turned upside down at Bungie as well, as Game Director via Twitter/X revealed. And they also had to adjust the further course of Season 22 accordingly.
- Due to ongoing work to fix remaining issues with weapon crafting, update 7.2.0.4, which is supposed to include a change to the drop rates for the essence of the guardian, has been postponed.
- The start of the Grandmaster raid “Crota’s End” and the new PvP mode “Checkmate” will also be postponed until everything is back to normal.
Bungie has announced an earliest start date for update 7.2.0.4 and the postponed modes for Thursday, September 21, 2023. For today’s downtime, the focus is likely only on fixing the exploit error for now.
These times are important today: Bungie has informed players via Twitter about the exact times of today’s server downtime. The planned downtime is 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Here’s the exact schedule for the maintenance:
- At 03:00 PM, background maintenance will initially start on all platforms.
- Around 04:15 PM, the servers will go offline. Players will be automatically kicked from the game.
- During the downtime, Bungie will take care of the servers and then provide an update for all platforms for download.
- At 07:00 PM, everything should be back online and you can start playing again.
- The maintenance will continue in the background until 09:00 PM.
Also, keep in mind that third-party applications as well as the official companion app may also be unavailable for a while, so you cannot use them.

What’s in the patch notes? Bungie publishes the list of all changes for the update in the form of patch notes. However, these will only go online this evening and then provide a complete overview of all fixed issues and improvements.
