The new DLC of Destiny 2 “Lightfall” will be released on February 28, 2023, on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. But before that, Bungie will take its servers offline for a while for the brand new content. We summarize all the important information and times for you.
When does the new DLC “Lightfall” start? The release of the next major expansion of Destiny 2 “Lightfall” is scheduled for Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 6:00 PM in Germany. Traditionally, there will be a longer downtime before the start that you should plan for.
This is what the current schedule for the Lightfall release looks like:
- Destiny 2 will go offline on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 5:45 PM for 24 hours.
- Ongoing activities will be concluded at that time
- Players will not be able to log in until Tuesday, February 28 at 6:00 PM
- Some services on Bungie.net will also be unavailable during this time
- Once the servers are offline, the preload time begins
- Players on all platforms can download “Lightfall” during the 24 hours
- It is planned that the Destiny 2 servers will be back online on time on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 6:00 PM.
- As long as there are no major issues, you can play the “Lightfall” DLC from then on
What exciting things await you there can be seen in this video:
You should note for the Lightfall preload
Bungie has provided some notes for the preload. The preload sizes will be large everywhere. But especially for PlayStation players, there are other important notes regarding the Lightfall preload.
For them, both the old and the new versions of Destiny 2 must coexist for a while. So you need enough free storage space on your console.
- PS4 players who want to preload Lightfall should ensure that they have about 80 GB of free storage space for an additional installation package that can be downloaded in addition to the existing Destiny 2 packages.
- The old packages will be removed once Lightfall starts, but during the 24-hour downtime, both versions must be stored for the preload process to be successful.
Are login issues to be expected? Yes, that is never completely ruled out. So expect server issues and queues before you can explore Neomuna.
Bungie has pointed out just in case that despite all routine support, queues are never entirely unavoidable. Especially in the first hours and later also for a while during peak gaming times.
Lightfall improves load times and storage requirements
Resource-saving and fast DLC: In addition, there was also good news from support. Many players were concerned that Destiny 2 could not “grow” indefinitely, especially since Bungie announced that no old DLCs would be placed in the content vault anymore.
As Joe Blackburn revealed in August 2022, work was done behind the scenes on the Destiny engine, preparing its technology and game to endure for many, many years. This seems to already be paying off in Lightfall.
- Although the download size for Lightfall is large, this new installation will improve the load times of Destiny 2.
- The storage requirements for Destiny 2 will also be lower after the Lightfall release.
On which platforms will “Lightfall” be released? Destiny 2 is releasing the new DLC on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. Google Stadia is no longer supported, as the platform was discontinued on January 18, 2023.
