Guardians have one week left to prepare for the expansion Beyond Light in Destiny 2. MyMMO explains why you can barely prepare this time. However, it also gives you tips if you want to start the new DLC as well-equipped as possible.
Therefore, you shouldn’t level up anything anymore: If you want to spend your last days in Season 11 upgrading your gear and obtaining top loot to push your power level a little further, you should refrain from doing that.
- Once Beyond Light launches, all Guardians will receive a power level boost to 1,050.
- The current hard cap, the maximum limit, in Season 11 is set at 1,060.
- Even new Guardians will thus run into the DLC almost as strong as the strongest players currently.
- In Beyond Light, the soft cap is at 1,200: This means that every green drop will quickly advance your level.
So don’t waste your time leveling up.
Collecting tokens also brings nothing: Until now, “rich” guardians could quickly earn a few power levels in a new DLC or season. This was possible through the token system – starting with Beyond Light, this will no longer be useful.
- If you go to Shaxx or other NPCs in Beyond Light and expect high-level gear for your tokens, we have bad news: starting with Season 12, gear obtained from collections or for tokens will have a lower power level than in previous seasons.
- Items you receive for tokens will be 20 power levels below your level.
- Gear from collections will even be capped at power level 1,050.
As compensation, Bungie is introducing a new system where your favorite activities will yield significantly more for your power level. More information about power levels from November 10 can be found here:
Should I hoard bounties in preparation for Beyond Light?
Bounties have always been viewed as a safe bet when preparing for new content. However, you need to consider a lot this time if you want a real advantage.
The argument for collecting bounties
The experience you gain from redeeming a bounty does not directly affect your power level. However, the experience benefits two important aspects:
1. The Artifact:
- Bounties level up the seasonal artifact from the new Season of the Hunt
- The artifact gives you a passive level bonus that adds independently to your power level.
- In the artifact, you will also always find special mods – these are the best what the season has to offer and allow for strong builds.
2. The Season Pass:
- The Season Pass also levels up through all XP sources, including bounties.
- Rewards such as armor, weapons, engrams, and exotics await in the Season Pass.
- This gear often has strong stats, and on the other hand, the gear is good for the power level.
Furthermore, it speaks for collecting bounties that the current Season 11, after its extension, has been running for 5 months. So you definitely don’t need additional experience or rewards anymore. Therefore, you can simply carry completed bounties into Beyond Light.
However, a few important things must be considered.
The argument against collecting bounties
Bungie knows which season your bounties come from. This means that many rewards will be at the power level of the season the bounty originated from.
- If you redeem your bounties from the current Season 11 with Zavala in Beyond Light, his rewards will only be at the level of Season 11.
- This way, you will lose the powerful reward from Zavala for the whole week.
- In this case, you would be better off completing bounties you accept starting November 10.
This is how to bypass the problem: There is a little trick to earn experience from old bounties without missing out on new powerful rewards.
- To do this, collect bounties now and don’t redeem them at the start of Beyond Light.
- Instead, complete the new bounties first, and only when you have the powerful reward from an NPC do you redeem the bounties from Season 11.
- This way, you will gain experience for your new artifact and the Season Pass, but without harming your power leveling.
Additionally, you should keep in mind: Some bounties you should not collect at all and take to Beyond Light:
- It’s better not to collect any PvP and Gambit bounties from Season 11. In the past, these bounties could sabotage your power level.
- For rank-ups where old PvP or Gambit bounties were involved, you will only receive old rewards.
- Bounties from locations that will vanish with the launch of the DLC will likely also be lost – so don’t waste your time here.
- Event bounties are supposed to disappear from the inventory, so complete them before the reset at 6 PM.
- Some weekly bounties also disappear every weekly reset – this includes, for example, the EDZ.
What we really recommend as preparation is to secure the best weapons now. Because many of them will disappear when the new DLC releases:
If you’re an unyielding bounty hoarder, these bounties will keep you safe:
- Strike: Daily bounties
- Gunsmith: Daily and Weekly bounties
- Eris Morn (Moon): Daily and Weekly bounties
- Statues of Devotion (Moon): Daily and Weekly bounties
- EDZ: Daily bounties
- Nessus: Daily bounties
What now, to collect or not? Ultimately, you have to answer this question for yourself. However, Bungie has significantly narrowed down preparation. We only recommend putting in the effort if you really want to prepare for the opening of the new raid on November 21.
But keep in mind that all this collecting could be for nothing when the patch notes for Beyond Light are released.
