Bungie is trying to make Destiny 2 a hobby again with the Forsaken expansion. This is also evident with the new level cap and the new maximum power level.
A long way to the top: Destiny is meant to become a hobby again. Bungie is relentless in emphasizing this over and over. The Forsaken expansion is supposed to represent a major step in that direction. More information about the new maximum level and the upcoming power level cap seems to confirm this. It looks like Guardians will have a long road ahead of them starting September 4th before they can reach their maximum strength again.
The new maximum level – A huge leap
Bungie confirms new upper limit: According to YouTuber MesaSean, the new maximum character level in the upcoming Forsaken expansion will be 50 and the power level cap will be 600.
Although these values were already visible during the reveal stream of Destiny 2: Forsaken, at that time it was stated that these numbers shouldn’t be taken too seriously as they would likely change again.
However, it seems that these values are indeed final. MesaSean has played the current build of Forsaken and, according to his own statement, talked directly with Bungie to confirm this information.
A giant leap: This increase represents the largest level cap difference since the launch of Destiny 2. The two DLCs “Curse of Osiris” and “Warmind” raised the character level by 5 each and the power level by 30 and 50, respectively. This time, Forsaken brings an addition of 20 character levels and 215 power levels to climb starting September 4, 2018.
At E3, Bungie emphasized that with the upcoming fall expansion they want to challenge players more frequently and harder than ever before. This obviously also relates to the leveling process.
How fast is the new path to max level? It remains to be seen how quickly these new limits can be reached. Unfortunately, nothing is known about this so far.
However, if Bungie adheres to the recently introduced changes to the leveling system and the sources for upgrades, Guardians may face a long and arduous path to the top of power – especially for fans with limited playtime. But that’s exactly what large parts of the community have been wishing for a long time.
