In Destiny 2, the destruction of two well-known locations is circulating online. We will look at both leaks and explain what is behind them.
In this article, we will examine both potential destructions separately and discuss what supports or contradicts the events.
What destruction does the spoiler reveal? The Tower, the well-visited social space of Destiny 2, might soon take quite a hit. On reddit, users show how they glitch into an alternative version of the Tower and reveal severe damage to our Guardians’ HQ.
Especially hard hit is the Plaza, specifically the Eververse:
How and when could this happen? In the story focus of the current Season 10, there is a dangerous alliance: players are teaming up with the dubious Warmind Rasputin to fend off an orbital threat. A massive Cabal warship is heading towards Earth uncontrollably and threatens to smash the last city like a meteor.
For about two months, the Guardians have been equipping the powerful AI with even more powerful weapons. In the seasonal finale (early June), Rasputin is expected to dismantle the ship at the last moment. Debris and wreckage could rain down from the sky – the damage to the Tower is included.
The likelihood of the leak: The chances of this leak coming true are considered quite high for three reasons:
- In the trailer for Season 10 (via YouTube), you can see frightened residents of the Tower staring at the sky, some even holding their hands to their faces – the reason is likely the orbital threat, which will heroically be averted in the final moment.
- Leaked dialogues and quest steps for the season finale show that Commander Zavala thanks us for our risky collaboration with Rasputin.
- More and more players are showing how they are glitching into the damaged Tower – this is not a one-time fake or something like that. Some players even report that they see damage in a cutscene of the Tower at the end of the vanilla campaign (source: Houndish via YouTube).
Players especially enjoy the thought that the Eververse will take quite a hit and see it as a self-ironic wink from Bungie against the controversial cash shop. However, we do not believe in the complete destruction of the Eververse at all.
Darkness could destroy entire planets in Destiny 2
What location is threatened? For some time, there has been a rumor circulating online that Titan might soon be completely destroyed. Reasons cited include both the story and the technical limitations of Destiny 2.
In this context, the quote from Mark Noseworthy, General Manager for Destiny, is often referenced: “The game cannot simply grow indefinitely forever” (via Polygon).
Luke Smith, Destiny’s head and big guru, also stated that some content must disappear from the game, especially because the hard drives are straining under the load. Currently, the game file size of Destiny is nearly 100 GB, but the required space for updates and the copying process consumes well over one and a half times that.
Other top games also consume a lot of storage space:
This could lead to destruction: In the story of Destiny, the arrival of the dark Pyramid ships is imminent after 6 years of waiting. In the game, one can see a doomsday clock in Rasputin’s bunkers that shows more and more invaders in our solar system week by week.
A leaked cutscene also shows how the threat reaches Jupiter – thus, it has likely already passed Saturn and its moon Titan.
The likelihood of Titan’s destruction: We consider this scenario significantly less likely than the damage to the Tower. Although Bungie has expressed the desire to remove content from the game (e.g., one of the two Gambit modes), there is currently a lack of substantial evidence to support the theory.
However, if a planet (moon) were to be affected, Titan would certainly be the first choice. The location is relatively small, offers hardly any important quests, and is almost only relevant in the vanilla story. In contrast to other locations like Io. The moon of Jupiter, for example, is home to one of the most popular quests in all of Destiny 2: the Whisper mission.
It would certainly be a groundbreaking and impressive event if Destiny 2 were to go so far as to erase an entire location. This would make the impending threat of the Pyramid ships significantly more terrifying.
