Normally, Bungie remains silent about its distant plans for Destiny 2. Now, they at least briefly broke their silence and mentioned a major Comet expansion for Destiny 2 in the fall of 2018.
Bungie is celebrating the 5th anniversary of its Gauntlet tabletop fundraising campaign in 2018. The Bungie team will compete in a tournament against 20 other gaming studios and board game fans to raise funds.

In this context, the studio is also calling on its fans to donate a certain amount for this charitable cause and is luring them with some interesting rewards. One specific reward reveals new details about the fall expansion of Destiny 2.
Guardians want to learn more about the future of Destiny 2
The release of the next expansion for Destiny 2 is just around the corner. On May 8, 2018, the 2nd DLC titled Warmind will be released. However, many fans are particularly interested in what happens with the game after DLC II in May.
When will the major changes for Destiny come? When will an expansion like “The Taken King” be released?
Bungie has already partially answered some of these questions based on an updated summer roadmap. This outlines roughly how the game will continue until September 2018.
However, some additional hints about the immediate future of Destiny 2 may now come from a reward for an upcoming fundraising event by Bungie.
Charity event provides insight into future plans for Destiny 2

If one donates $50 as part of the Gauntlet tabletop fundraising event, the official donation page states that in the fall they will receive an unannounced, exclusive emblem for the next major Destiny 2 Comet release. The exact date when the emblem will be delivered is still pending.
The interesting part is: Bungie usually remains silent about everything beyond the nearest expansion (in this case, “Warmind”). They only talked about the much more exciting “The Taken King” in 2015, when the rather dull “House of Wolves” was already sealed.
For the charity event, Bungie now at least makes a small exception and already mentions the expansion after Warmind: Comet.
“Comet” expansion – what does that mean?
This listing is currently fueling ongoing debates about the future of Destiny 2. On Reddit and in social media, the meaning of the term Comet and the possible contents of the fall expansion are now being hotly debated.
Because the term Comet might still be remembered by some Guardians from the days of Destiny 1.

Everything points to a major Destiny 2 expansion in September 2018
According to leaks, large expansions for Destiny have been referred to as Comet in the past, which provide the game with substantial content and should differ significantly from the smaller DLCs.
The originally working title “Comet: Plague of Darkness” was also referred to in unofficial leaks for the large expansion planned for September 2015 for Destiny 1.

This name never actually came out, but the large expansion “The Taken King” is very close to the planned contents and theme of Comet. The release timing of “The Taken King” in September 2015 also shows clear parallels.
Another hint comes from Bungie’s previous DLC policy for Destiny 2. According to the updated roadmap, Season 4 is set to begin in September 2018. The start of a new season has always been tied to the release of an expansion in Destiny 2. It is likely that Season 4 will not be an exception.
Against this backdrop, a fall expansion in September seems very likely. The term Comet officially used by Bungie also suggests that the fall expansion could be a substantial add-on in the style of “The Taken King”.
Additionally, the fact that according to the roadmap the first truly significant changes to core components of the game are to be made with Season 4 also speaks in favor of a major expansion of Destiny 2 in September.
What do you think? Are we expecting a “Taken King” equivalent for Destiny 2 in September 2018?
