When Bungie talks about the future of Destiny 2 on June 6, there might be a big surprise. Data miners have found a possible feature in the game data that has been on the Guardians’ wishlist for a long time: A banner for Cross-Save has been discovered.
What has been found? On June 4, with a new update, the Season of Opulence has begun in Destiny 2. When the patch was ready for download, data miners quickly sifted through the new data and struck gold. They might have already found the next expansion, which supposedly brings the Guardians back to the Moon.
Recently, the well-known data miner Ginsor has come forward and shown what he found in the new data: A banner and various icons for Cross-Save. He believes that Bungie might present this feature during the next livestream about the future of Destiny on June 6.
Why is Cross-Save only now? Cross-Save is one of the features players have been wishing for a long time. Once a platform has been chosen, the character is tied to it.
It is particularly tragic since Destiny 2 is also available for PC. Some Guardians might like to switch to PC, but they do not want to start over or are attached to their characters that they have been playing since Destiny 1.
The absence of Cross-Save until now is, according to gaming journalist Jason Schreier, due to Sony. He claims to have discovered in conversations with Bungie staff that Sony wanted people to connect Destiny 2 with the PS4. The company rejected Cross-Save or character transfer.
Whether Sony has now backed down on this matter is hard to say. After all, the Japanese have already given in on Crossplay in Fortnite. Additionally, Bungie recently separated from Activision. Perhaps a new deal could be negotiated this way.
What do the players say? In the Destiny subreddit, players are looking forward to a potential announcement. In the corresponding thread, there are recurring comments like “Don’t do this to me, don’t get my hopes up” and “If this is fake, it would be the meanest thing you could do”.
Especially the prospect of being able to switch to another platform without having to start over is well received by the Guardians. The only increase would probably be real Crossplay, says one player.
However, the Guardians wonder how this will work. It is especially debated whether one could freely switch between platforms and if so, what happens to items and content that initially appear exclusively on PlayStation 4.
