A new leak claims to know how Destiny 2 will continue in fall 2020 during its fourth year and reveals alleged details about the next major expansion. What content could be coming? And how much truth is there to the whole thing?
What is the leak about the next expansion? Currently, there is no official information on how things will continue in fall 2020. However, there are many indications that Destiny 2 will enter its fourth year.
A new leak has surfaced, supposedly containing numerous details about the future of Destiny 2. It speaks of another major expansion in fall 2020.
Where is the information coming from? The leak itself originates from the discussion platform 4chan, but was handed to the well-known Destiny streamer Sweatcicle by “someone” and then posted by him on Twitter.
Since then, the new leak has been the talk of the town and has sparked various discussions within the community.
Keep in mind: The information is not officially confirmed and should be taken with a healthy dose of caution and skepticism. Additionally, some potential spoilers may await you. Therefore – continue reading at your own risk.
The leak reveals about year 4 of Destiny 2
This is why Destiny 2 is allegedly running on low flame according to the leak: Alongside new content, the leak addresses right at the beginning why it is currently dragging with new content for Destiny 2 and even the biggest streamer is taking a break.
Only a small team is said to be working on Destiny 2. The rest is occupied with the upcoming major fall expansion for Destiny 2 and with Bungie’s new IP “Matter”, according to the leak.
This is what the leak says about the next expansion: According to the leak, this major fall expansion is called “The Collapse” and is expected to be similar in scope to the Forsaken expansion from 2018.
It has supposedly been in development for some time (about 2 years) and was originally planned as part of Destiny 3. However, the plan was reportedly changed midway, and it will now be released as a new add-on for Destiny 2.
An official reveal is expected according to the leak in June 2020.
The following contents are allegedly coming according to the leak: Alleged details include new content such as enemies, activities, or subclasses. Here are the highlights:
- The story is supposed to revolve around the arrival of the mysterious Pyramid ships and serve as a transition to Destiny 3.
- Cabals’ Emperor Calus, the Queen of the Awoken Mara Sov, and Eris Morn from the Shadowkeep expansion are all supposed to play significant roles in “The Collapse”.
- Finally, Darkness is supposed to be the direct main enemy of the Guardians – something many have been waiting for 6 years.
- An interesting character (likely the leader) is supposed to be a mysterious woman with a ghostly appearance – The Winnower. She is said to resemble the distinctive statue inside the Pyramid ship on the moon.
- A completely new enemy race is to be introduced – The Veil (as leaked by AnonTheNine before).
- They are to be some kind of astro-demons with earth golem-like appearance – the true servants of Darkness. They are said to possess more troops than all other races combined and have a drastic influence on their surroundings and the abilities of the Guardians.
- For instance, they should be able to suppress light-based abilities or completely negate gravity in their immediate vicinity (according to the leak from AnonTheNine).
- The focus of the new expansion is to lie on two new locations: Europa, a moon of Jupiter, and Finality, a massive city inside the main Pyramid of the Winnower. This was previously seen in concept art for Destiny 2.
- Additionally, new darkness abilities for the Guardians are supposed to be introduced with this. Each Guardian class is to receive new Darkness subclasses (so they can no longer rely solely on Light).
- The “Collapse” expansion is supposed to introduce a new raid that takes place deep within the territory of the Winnower, in the heart of the Finality city. There, players are supposed to destroy the physical form of Darkness.
- New strikes are also expected to be introduced with the next expansion.
What is the validity of the new leak?
What is the truth behind the new leak? This is being actively debated in the community, as the leak has become a hot topic lately – whether on Reddit, YouTube, or social media. Opinions on this matter vary significantly.
This supports the leak: On one hand, it already looks like in Season 10 that we will soon be dealing with the fleet of Pyramid ships and Darkness.
On the other hand, numerous details from the new leak overlap with things that people have already heard in other leaks from AnonTheNine – even though those were about Destiny 3. This leaker is no longer active but had accurately predicted many things regarding Destiny 2: Forsaken and the subsequent period.
The information regarding the low flame operation also sounds far from unreasonable.
Overall, this gives at least some Guardians a plausible overall picture that fits the current situation and past rumors. Moreover, Sweatcicle himself commented on this in his tweet: “Sounds plausible. If true, that sounds pretty good.”
This goes against the leak: On one hand, it is the original source. This source is anonymous and also stems from the 4chan platform, which is not necessarily considered the most reliable source of information, as a lot of nonsense is often posted there. For this reason, many consider this new leak nonsense.
Furthermore, nearly all information, except for the reveal date and the raid, comes from other leaks. The whole thing doesn’t really deliver any new substance and could simply have been reused due to the approaching Darkness, according to some players.
Additionally, the most famous data miner (and leaker) of Destiny 2, Ginsor, has already commented on this leak and replied to Sweatcicle’s tweet with a dry “No.” Though he admits he doesn’t know for sure, he feels the leak doesn’t seem “legit.”
In general, many doubt that Bungie could handle a project of such magnitude on its own – especially alongside a new IP.
The community is thus still divided on all this, and it remains exciting to see if the leak ultimately holds true. Furthermore, Bungie has not really revealed how things will continue with Destiny 2. It is known that they will continue to focus on the seasonal content model. But by June at the latest, we will likely know. Then, according to the leak, “The Collapse” is to be officially revealed.
In short: Whether year 4 of Destiny 2 will actually look like this remains uncertain. It is plausible, but many (the perceived majority) doubt it. In June, we will first be able to see if the leak lives up to its promises.
What do you think? Is there any truth to the leak, or do you consider it nonsense? Would you be happy if Destiny 2 continued like this in the fall?
