On January 29, the quest “The Temptation” went live in Destiny 2. It leads the Guardians to the 5th and final weapon Exotic of the “Forsaken” DLC, the Hand Cannon “The Last Word.”
With the Weekly Reset from January 29, owners of the Annual Pass now have the chance to earn a new exotic weapon. This is the Hand Cannon “The Last Word,” a cult weapon from the predecessor, which is now making its return in Destiny 2. What must one actually do for that?
This is how the quest “The Temptation” for The Last Word works
The quest for the new exotic Hand Cannon consists of a total of 10 steps and revolves around the Drifter and the Hive:
Step 1 – Corrupted Artifact: To get the quest, you simply need to speak with the Drifter in the Tower. There you will learn more about an artifact infected by a long-familiar illness and receive the first step.

Step 2 – The Cleansing: Now, it’s time to cleanse the artifact of its illness. For this, you need to do the following:
- Defeat Hive enemies with Solar damage. Kills with weapons and abilities that deal Solar damage count.
- Collect 75 Hive Tablets. Killed Hive enemies of any type drop this item after kills.
- Defeat 3 Hive bosses.

The best place to do all of this is in the Lost Sector “Kern-Terminus” on Mars in the Braytech Futurescape area. Three to four runs through the sector should be enough to complete all tasks.
Step 3 – A Clean Artifact: This step is simple again. The Drifter wants you to bring him the now cleansed artifact.
Step 4 – The Temptation: Now, the Guardians need to go into the Crucible, where they should “feed” the artifact with Light by defeating other Guardians. One kill gives you 1% progress. Assists also count. If you kill multiple players in one life, you will get more percentages.
It is therefore about killing as many enemies as possible while dying as little as possible, since your own deaths will hinder your progress. If you die, you will lose 1% of your progress.

Step 5 – The Condemnation: The artifact now calls for something dark. You need to uncover a dark ritual on Titan and stop this wild ceremony.
This involves a mission (Power Level 500) on Titan that is unmistakably marked with a mission marker on the planet map. This is practically self-explanatory, so just follow the mission’s course. When facing the boss, you should only pay attention to take out the two Witches. This will remove his shield and allow you to deal damage.
Step 6 – A New Jagged Destiny: This step is straightforward. You have found the helmet of a Guardian that was pierced by a unique projectile. You need to bring this helmet to the Drifter.
Step 7 – Contaminated Light: This is a classic collection quest step, where you need to find several items. The Hive weapon master crafts new weapons of woe, and you need to stop him. However, you must corrupt your own Light to complete the ritual. For this, you need:
- 15 Corrosive Crystals from sought enemies in Lost Sectors. These two sectors on Earth are particularly suitable for this. You can quickly run in, kill the sought boss, and run out.

Step 8 – Path of Woe: This step is short. You now have everything needed to find the Hive weapon master. Bring everything to the Drifter in the Tower.
Step 9 – The Conversation: You have found Enkaar, the Hive weapon master. He hides in Hellrise Canyon in the Tangled Shore. Now you need to hunt him down and bring him to justice.
This all happens within a new mission (Power Level 500), which is marked on the map of the Tangled Shore with an appropriate marker. It’s best to mark the mission on the map, so you will be guided by in-game markers to the mission point as soon as you land in the Tangled Shore.
In the mission itself, there is a special mechanic to consider. When you stand on the glowing plate, a Hive enemy who wants to duel with you will appear.

Once you have claimed the plate, you will receive a special Hand Cannon. With this, you must aim at the enemy’s weapon – and indeed when he intends to shoot. You can tell this by his weapon beginning to glow blue.
At the next plate, two enemies will then appear, and at the following one, three. The mechanics do not change. You just need to shoot at the enemies’ weapons in the order they spawned.
Step 10 – A Dark Path: You have defeated the Hive weapon master thanks to a mysterious gift – The Last Word. Now you need to return to the Drifter and talk with him. This concludes the quest line for The Last Word.

This is what The Last Word can do

What makes the weapon special: The intrinsic perk of the weapon is called Fanning. This allows rapid and continuous fire with The Last Word. Successive hit damage from the hip also grants the weapon faster reload and increased precision.
Other perks of the weapon are:
- Corkscrew Rifling: A balanced barrel that slightly increases range, stability, and handling speed.
- Improved Rounds: The weapon fires at longer distances, so the range is increased.
- Hip-Fire Grip: Precision and stability when firing from the hip are increased.
- Textured Grip: Handling speed is significantly increased, although stability is slightly decreased.
With these perks, The Last Word is sure to remain true to its kind in Destiny 2 and come at least close to the feel of Destiny 1 – even though there are some differences in the exotic perk compared to the version from the predecessor.
