In Destiny 2 you no longer have to search for the God Roll. Because there are no random weapon perks anymore.
In Destiny 1, a strong weapon alone is not enough. Because this weapon needs strong perks to really be useful – so random “extras” that grant the weapon certain advantages.
If a weapon drops with the best possible perks, it is referred to as the God Roll. Those who receive such a weapon are among the luckiest Guardians.
This randomness with the weapons can provide excitement and long-term motivation (to find the God Roll) on one hand, but also frustration when enemies refuse to drop the desired perk combination.
In Destiny 2, this thrill is gone. Because as it has now been revealed: There is no more randomness with the weapons. Will the loot now be boring?
No random weapon rolls in Destiny 2
Mashable quotes statements from Game Director Luke Smith: “There are no more random rolls on weapons.”
As an example, he mentions a Crucible hand cannon from Destiny 2 called Better Devils. This always has the same attributes.
In Destiny 2, the lineup for all stats and perks for each individual weapon and piece of armor is “hand-crafted.” This would give the sandbox team more flexibility when adjusting weapons.
Because in Destiny 1 there was a dilemma here. If you wanted to adjust a legendary weapon because it was overpowered or too weak, you had to make stat changes across the entire weapon category.
In Destiny 2, however, each weapon represents its own “category.” “This will give us more flexibility to tune individual items,” says Smith. In Destiny 1, this was not possible because that game was structured differently.
How will the loot stay interesting?
That Bungie can now adjust the weapons individually is in itself a great thing. However, the question also arises of what will happen to the thrill of searching for the God Roll. Numerous players enjoy spending a lot of time in the game to get the best items. This motivates them and is fun in the long run.
But how can a second, a third, or a tenth “Better Devils” still be interesting when you already know in advance what stats and perks it will have? Smith says this is a question they are asking themselves and that they will answer as soon as possible.
They have ideas, Smith says. Currently, he cannot share those ideas with us. He also does not know if these ideas can be implemented by September 6th. Then the release of Destiny 2 will be. He adds that they are very exciting ideas.
What do you think? Are you glad that this randomness is going away? Or do you already miss the God Roll drops?
