In Destiny 2, the emblems will receive three updates next week. One of these concerns the auras.
Next week, on February 27, Update 1.1.3 will be released, which will make some changes to the Nightfall Strikes. The time limits will be replaced by Strike scoring, special Nightfall emblems will be introduced, and the Prestige version of the Nightfall will add challenges through challenge cards. Tyson Green, Senior Design Lead at Bungie, will now elaborate on the changes to the Nightfall emblems and emblems in general that will be introduced with 1.1.3. Three important updates will be mentioned.
This is how the emblems change in Destiny 2 with Update 1.1.3
Emblems are primarily cosmetic items that allow you to color the character menu and the background of your gamertag. Some emblems also display certain stats, allowing you to show other Guardians at first glance: “This is what I’ve achieved in Destiny 2!”
More diverse stats on emblems
The emblems will be even better suited to showcase personal achievements with 1.1.3. Specifically, this means:
- The emblems will track more stats that you can see on them.
- The emblems will be more accessible, allowing Guardians to present the stats they want to showcase.
For example, in the future, you can purchase the Crucible emblem, which displays victories or the KD, directly from Lord Shaxx once you’ve earned 10 Crucible reputation packages.
Additionally, a new Crucible emblem will be introduced that shows Crucible kills divided by Guardian classes. This allows you to see how many Titans, Hunters, and Warlocks have already been in your sights:
Auras will be integrated with emblems
The auras will be removed as separate items and integrated into the emblems. This means you will only gain access to the already existing raid and Trials emblems and the new Nightfall emblems for the already known aura effects. New, future emblems may provide additional aura effects.
However, the aura will not activate immediately when you equip an emblem. They are still tied to certain conditions. For example, you must achieve Flawless or master the Prestige mode to activate the aura effects.

Some auras provide a fireteam bonus that benefits your entire squad. When team members see the aura above you, they know who to thank for this bonus.
Currently, this mixing of aura and emblem is generating a lot of discussion in the forums. Many don’t understand this step as it limits customization options. Because if you want a specific aura, you are now forced to equip the corresponding emblem. Until now, you could choose any emblem and still have a nice aura around you.
This limits diversity, as all Guardians wanting auras will consequently be running around with the same emblems.
Emblem variants will be added
The third update regarding the emblems is called “emblem variants” and addresses this concern of limited diversity.
If an emblem indicates significant achievements and is therefore used by many Guardians, Bungie doesn’t want all Guardians to look the same. Nevertheless, the specific emblems that show great achievements should still be recognizable as such. Therefore, “emblem variants” will now come, allowing a slight adjustment of the emblem’s look. Here you see an example of emblem customization options:
Some emblem variants must first be unlocked. For example, in the upper image, you need to defeat 1000 Titans in PvP for this variant to become available. For others, you need to open chests at the destination, and yet others, according to Bungie, will be quite rare.
An example – the new Nightfall emblems
Bungie summarizes all the emblem updates using the example of the new Nightfall emblems:
- You will receive the Nightfall emblems by completing certain Nightfall strikes
- These emblems display your highest personal score in Nightfall. In the future, the highest clan high score should also be displayed.
- The Nightfall emblems have multiple variants. Some of these you can only unlock by exceeding certain high score thresholds. Some are expected to be extremely challenging to achieve.
- Additionally, these emblems activate the purple Nightfall aura. This grants you a fireteam bonus that provides you with more Vanguard tokens, but only if your personal high score is high enough.
This is just the first step in how the emblems are changing. More updates will be coming in the future. They hope to learn from player feedback.
