Destiny 2 is a versatile MMO shooter: You can dive into war against the Cabal solo, compete against other Guardians in PvP, and play Co-op with your friends while shooting aliens in the face.
It is this extensive Co-op aspect that makes Destiny 2 appealing to many players. Facing PvE opponents together, discovering secrets, and taking down big bosses together draws numerous Guardians regularly into the Destiny universe. The social component in Destiny 2 holds the game together.
But which PvE activities can actually be tackled cooperatively?
PvE content with Co-op mode in Destiny 2 – the campaign is included
In principle: All content that you can start solo, you can also start with friends. However, there are different Co-op experiences.
These are all Co-op contents:
The Campaign: The story missions can be completed in a fireteam of up to 3 players. However, the initial moments can only be experienced solo. After that, you can immediately call your friends for help. You will receive a notification once Co-op (and PvP) become active.
In the campaign, it is about the war against Ghaul and his Red Legion
Strikes: These are standalone instances that are tackled in a fireteam of 3 players. If you don’t have two friends with you, two random players will be matched with you via matchmaking. In the strikes, you must face a variety of enemies; at the end, there is a final boss.
Nightfall Strikes: A weekly activity that is a harder version of a “normal” strike. Through Nightfall strikes, you can earn powerful loot at the endgame. The “Nightfall,” as it is called in English, can be played with three players in the fireteam.
Raid: The raid represents the longest, most difficult, and most comprehensive PvE Co-op activity. Little is known about the raid in Destiny 2, but it is expected that you will face multiple bosses, decipher mechanics, and master jumping sections. Raids can – and should – be played with 6 players.
Open-World Activities: In Destiny 2, there are four worlds that all have an “Open World.” You can freely explore these worlds and complete activities within them. You can fly into the Open World both solo and with friends – but not only that: During your exploration, you will also encounter other random players who are not in your fireteam. Together, you can participate in public events, explore Lost Sectors, or just fool around. You should also be able to observe other players as they complete Adventures, short side missions, in the Open World. All Open World activities can be found in our PvE guide.
Flashpoints: Flashpoints are basically part of the Open World activities. In a region marked as a Flashpoint, events must be completed. Then there are powerful items that have Nightfall strike level. Flashpoints count as weekly activities. They can also be played in a group.
These are all currently known PvE Co-op activities. There may be more, or new ones will be introduced in future expansions. We will then update this article.
Co-op only Online or also in Split-Screen?
Destiny 2 is an MMO shooter that you can only play with your online friends. Nothing is known about a split-screen mode. Therefore, only one player can play on a console or PC at a time.
