Does Xur cause even more frustration than usual this week? The Guardians of Destiny 2 have reason to believe so. Bungie has now responded.
Xur really can’t catch a break. For over three years, the Exotic dealer with the face tentacles has reliably appeared every week, cheerfully showing the Guardians his inventory – but he almost always ends up facing criticism.
Because no matter what he brings – Xur can never please all Guardians. Thus, discussions arise week after week, usually ending with Xur being called a greedy bastard.
A new discussion has recently sparked around Xur: Will the Agent of the Nine be responsible for yet another shitstorm this week?
What? What’s wrong with Xur?
Since the launch of Destiny 2, one can rely on Xur always appearing in the game world where the flashpoint occurs. If the flashpoint is, for example, on Nessus, one can expect Xur to be back on the tree on Nessus over the weekend.
This week (since December 12) however, the flashpoint is on Mercury. Mercury is the new location introduced with the paid “Curse of Osiris” DLC. And many Guardians are now consequently assuming that Xur will make a stop on Mercury this time – and thus only DLC owners will have access to his exotic inventory.
If this happens, many Guardians stated that one should brace for the next shitstorm from Bungie. First, the prestige activities were tied to the DLC, then only DLC owners were able to play the Trials of the Nine. If now Xur is taken away from Guardians without the expansion, there would be an outcry.
The Mercury is too bright for Xur
Bungie has now commented on this discussion surrounding Xur. Community Manager dmg04 tweeted that Xur will not appear on Mercury. It is far too bright for his taste.
He will take his position in one of the other game worlds this week. Community Manager DeeJ also spoke up shortly afterward. He explained that it cannot be said where he will be this time. However, it can be said where he will not be.
In short: Xur will be accessible for all Guardians this week and in the future – regardless of whether they own Curse of Osiris or not.
Where he will be starting December 15 and what exotics he will bring, we will find out tomorrow around 6 PM. We will report on it.
