Destiny 2 rolls out the red carpet for the King tonight. For the first time in a long time, players can once again cross the gates of the Dreadnaught and play the legendary raid King’s Fall. And it’s even free. MeinMMO tells you everything you need to know about the raid launch of King’s Fall and the Worlds-First race.
What is the return of the King about? In Destiny’s history, there are several content treasures lying dormant. Among them are raids that players once passionately played in Destiny 1.
As part of the so-called legacy content, Bungie is gradually bringing these activities to Destiny 2 so that the new Guardian generation also has the opportunity to discover them.
- In 2021, Bungie brought back “The Glass Prison”, the very first raid of the Destiny franchise.
- In 2022, “Kings Fall”, the legendary raid from “The Taken King” featuring Oryx, Savathun’s brother, invites players on another nostalgia trip.
Everything you need to know about the launch of King’s Fall
When does the raid start? This Friday, August 26, at 7:00 PM German time. From then on, the competitive mode will also be active, and you have exactly 24 hours to complete it.
On Saturday, August 27, at 7:00 PM German time, the competitive mode will end, assuming everything goes according to plan. This means you can play the raid at your own pace afterward and will probably also have to deal with a low power level requirement.
Who can join? Anyone who wants to and is ready for it. The King’s Fall raid is free-to-play, meaning no expansions or possession of a season pass are required to start it. Only your power level should be in order.
What is the recommended power level? Your Guardian needs a power level of 1560 for the competitive mode to keep up with all encounters. If you are stronger, you will not gain any advantages.
What loot can be expected? The King’s Fall raid could, similar to what happened with The Glass Prison, also bring back the old legendary weapons of the raid, which will also be craftable via weapon crafting.
Whether there will later be special master versions or in this case “Tormented” weapons at the Grandmaster difficulty is still unknown.
If one believes the collection in Destiny 2, it looks like the following weapons could drop for you in the “King’s Fall” raid starting tonight:
- Yasmin’s Resilience (Sniper Rifle)
- Merain’s Pain (Pulse Rifle)
- Chelchis’s Ruin (Scout Rifle)
- Qullim’s Terminus (Machine Gun)
- Midha’s Reckoning (Fusion Rifle)
- Zaouli’s Curse (Hand Cannon)

What could the armors look like? You can also look forward to the old gear with the raid’s legendary armor.
Players are also very hopeful for the return of the former glowing versions of the armors, which had to be earned in the hard mode of the raid back then. These were also the cooler armor variant at that time. See for yourself:
Light.gg also shows two shaders that players can obtain in the raid.
- Firstly, the shader “Ancient Wisdom”
- And the shader “Tainted Flesh”
Moreover, an ornament in the game revealed that the “Malicious Touch” will also be available as an exotic from the King’s Fall raid. So look forward to sadistic gameplay if you’re lucky enough to have this scout rifle drop from the final boss.
The traits of this exotic scout rifle would also add its former sadistic nature with the intrinsic perk to Destiny 2.
- Breath of Malice: The last shot in the magazine deals bonus damage. It drains health from the weapon wielder, which then regenerates. Quickly defeating three targets restores health.
Facts about the 24h competitive mode: As mentioned, the competitive mode is active in the first 24 hours after the launch of the King’s Fall raid.
Anyone can participate in the so-called Worlds-First race or watch Destiny players on Twitch or YouTube as they compete for the win and the prize. Of course, German content creators are also involved.
Whether Bungie made changes to the old raid mechanics is still unknown. Players will have to be surprised, which also makes it more exciting.
How does the raid race work?
- In the first step, all participating teams must successfully complete the King’s Fall raid once within the 24 hours.
- If the raid is completed in competitive mode, a challenge mode will be unlocked – including a list of corresponding triumphs that need to be mastered.
- The challenges additionally have the modifier “Extinguished”, which results in an immediate “Return to Orbit” if one fails to complete one of the challenges. (Does not apply in the normal first run.)
- The first to complete this will be crowned by Bungie as the winner of the Worlds-First race.
All of this applies only for the first 24 hours. After that, the challenges will disappear again. However, they will be available at a later time in Season 18.
What is there to win? Traditionally, the winners will receive a prestigious World Champion belt from Bungie as a special reward for the World-First clear. Additionally, everyone will receive a special emblem for successfully completing all challenges within the first 24 hours.
