Destiny 2: King’s Fall – How to Master ‘Cunning Theft’, the Trickiest Raid Challenge

Destiny 2: King’s Fall – How to Master ‘Cunning Theft’, the Trickiest Raid Challenge

Players in Destiny 2 are currently hunting for raid triumphs and since yesterday the challenge is called “Sneaky Theft.” We took a look at the tricky challenge and have tips for you on how to complete it optimally.

What is a raid challenge? Each raid in Destiny 2 is already a challenging group activity and belongs to the endgame. Players face tricky puzzles together and overcome jumping sections to ultimately defeat the final boss. This promises prestigious weapons and armor that are only available there.

For those for whom this already substantial challenge is not enough, every week in the raid, you can face a so-called challenge. They still include the classic raid mechanics, but they also restrict certain play styles. Depending on which challenge is currently active, you often need to adjust your playstyle to master it.

All challenges typically take place in a specific raid encounter or phase. In the raid “King’s Fall,” there are a total of five such encounters – the jumping sections are excluded from the challenges. They rotate every week, but not in random order.

Are you taking on the second challenge “Sneaky Theft” in King’s Fall?

This is how to succeed in the challenge: “Sneaky Theft”

Where does the challenge take place? The raid challenge “Sneaky Theft” takes place in the second phase of the King’s Fall raid at the War Priest.

Previously, you had to pick up special bounties from Hawthorne for this, but that has changed. The challenge is automatically active when the raid starts. You will see the corresponding information in the lower left when you start the raid.

This is how to succeed in the challenge: To specifically complete the challenge “Sneaky Theft,” you must not carry the buff “Mark of the Initiate” for more than 5 seconds instead of the usual 30 seconds. The timer starts after you kill the Taken Knight and remove the buff.

So it requires extremely good timing between the guardians, who swap the buff and the rest of the team, who deal damage to the War Priest. It becomes even trickier when the player with the buff is on the left, but the first Taken Knight appears on the right.

If things go wrong, you will receive the notification “Challenge failed.” To try again, all of you can die, and the encounter starts anew.

IPhiniX has already played the challenge “Sneaky Theft” in his latest video and shows you the exact procedure.

Tips for the Challenge

The challenge makes the fight for the challenge much more jumpy and you must be very mobile. To make it easier for you, we have a few practical tips and hints on how to best complete the challenge.

  • The Mark of the Initiate is acquired by the player who stands on the last plate.
  • Normally, the buff bearer must be very mobile to be always fast enough within range of the buff remover. Especially when the fight takes place on the left side of the encounter. However, the easiest way to complete “Sneaky Theft” is to simply move as a group.
    • Everyone in the raid team should therefore go to where the Taken Knight spawns. Also, because the Taken Knights do not spawn where you picked up the “Mark of the Initiate.” For example, if you collect the buff in the middle, the Knights will appear accordingly on the left and right.
  • To extend the damage phase a bit longer, kill the Taken Knight, but leave the buff on the ground at first. However, you should pick it up when there’s still about 7 seconds on the timer.
  • We also recommend at least 2 Warlocks with Well of Radiance, so the DPS phases run smoothly.
  • On the Grandmaster difficulty, you can expect both Solar and Void shields as well as Anti-Barrier and Overload champions.
  • One player should also play the exotic “Aeon Soul” to continuously generate power ammo for the entire team.

What do you get as a reward? If you successfully complete the challenge, in addition to the completion of the title plaque “Sneaky Theft,” you will also receive bonus loot. In addition to the standard chest at the end of the encounter, another chest will appear after a short time. This also contains top-tier gear.

  • In normal mode, completing a challenge gives you double loot.
  • If you play on Grandmaster difficulty, you will receive status-specific armor and master weapons. However, the power level requirement is also 1600 with Overload and Anti-Barrier champions.
  • You can also earn the new raid-exclusive exotics in Grandmaster with the Oryx look.

Since each encounter offers you special loot, this means that for this challenge you will receive the chest piece, gauntlets, or the pulse rifle “Pain of Merain” as well as the sniper rifle “Resistance of Yasmin.”

How about you? Are you going for the challenges on Grandmaster right away, or are you trying it first in normal mode? Feel free to leave a comment for the community if you have more tips and tricks on how to complete the challenge well.
