Destiny 2 has dropped the bomb: The Trials of Osiris are making their return. Read all about the loot, new maps, and the date.
Many have been waiting for this: The return of the Trials is officially confirmed. In the early morning hours, Destiny 2 spilled the beans: On March 13, the new variant of the Trials of Osiris will begin.
In Season 10, 3 vs. 3 matches will be played again. It also seems that the Trials will be available to everyone, regardless of whether you buy the Season Pass in Season 10 or are playing the free version.
What are the Trials anyway? Behind this name is a special PvP mode: the Trials of Osiris. In small teams, players compete in a ruthless competition. The goal is the so-called Lighthouse.
To reach it, several matches must be won in a row. Traditionally, powerful and prestigious loot is the reward. In Destiny 1, the Trials of Osiris were considered one of the weekly highlights.
At the launch of Destiny 2, this mode was replaced by the Trials of the Nine, which did not go over very well. Now, the Trials of Osiris are set to make a spectacular return.
Surprisingly, Luke Smith, the Franchise Director of Destiny, announced the return. A short introduction video has also surfaced:
What we know about the new Trials of Osiris
These maps are coming back: Three popular “Destiny 1” maps will return along with the Trials:
- Exodus Blue
- Cauldron
- Anomaly
These maps will likely also be playable in the regular Crucible.
This is what’s known about the loot: In the introduction video, weapons and armor with an Egyptian-themed Trials design are shown. It also says, “Some of the coolest original gear is coming back.”
For players who achieve a flawless run, there is a special reward. The Trials armor glows, showing all other guardians that you have fought your way to the Lighthouse this week.
What about level advantages and the artifact? It seems that level advantages will be active in the Trials. In the clip, a guardian’s name is highlighted in deep red as a Dawnblade super survives.
This is not possible at the same level. However, there is currently no official confirmation regarding the effects of the artifact.
A special sandbox for the Trials? An interesting detail from the above video are the damage numbers:
- A scout rifle deals 444 damage
- A hand cannon (Last Word) hits at range with 270 damage
- The “Golden Gun” super of the hunter exceeds 4000 damage
One possibility could be that we are seeing a kind of test environment from Bungie in the video. The Destiny developer could be experimenting with the numbers.
The PvP expert Aztecross comments on this (via YouTube). He states that whenever he has visited Bungie for testing, he has never seen such drastically altered damage numbers. He assumes it could be a special sandbox in the Trials that is patched separately from the normal PvP.
This is what we know about the connection: Two factors are mentioned as criteria for matchmaking:
- Connection quality is prioritized
- It matters how many victories you have on your Trials ticket. If you are still without victories, you will not face a team that has already won 6 matches.
More information about the Trials is expected to be released soon.
What do you think of the return of the Trials of Osiris – are you already warming up in the Crucible or are you still waiting?
