In Destiny 2, the seasonal mod Energy Accelerant recently caused problems that were supposed to be fixed with an update. However, this modification now does not only do what it is supposed to – you can greatly benefit from an unintended effect. This probably won’t last long.
Here’s the current situation with the Energy Accelerant mod: This seasonal artifact mod came into play with the current Season 14, but was completely disabled shortly after. Because instead of only enhancing the explosions from the explosion perks Dragonfly, Chain Reaction, and Firefly, this modification unintentionally buffed some other weapons due to a bug – including the infamous Telesto.
With Update 3.2.0.2, Bungie brought the mod back into the game, and the problems were supposed to be resolved. However, apparently the mod still does not work as it should even after the fix.
Artifact mod back in the game, but still broken
What is the problem now with Energy Accelerant? While the Telesto and the exotic scout rifle Symmetry are no longer affected (that has indeed been fixed), the mod now boosts the damage of the exotic trace rifle Withered Image as well as swords of the scatter frame archetype. This likely wasn’t intended – after all, nothing about this is mentioned in the mod description.
What’s happening in detail? Specifically, the damage of Withered Image’s transmutation spheres is doubled.
- These spheres spawn after a kill (with a 5-second cooldown). You can pick them up and execute a heavy attack that leads to an explosion.
- This is now enhanced and corresponds in damage to the impact of 2 rockets, and is meant to be slightly weaker than the Warlock’s Nova Bomb.
- Thus, in principle, any Guardian can now spam a kind of mini-Nova Bomb.
Additionally, the damage of so-called Caster-frame swords is buffed. This includes Solas’ Scourge from the Trials and Claw of Temptation.
- On the one hand, the damage over time of the heavy attack (projectile) for this sword type is doubled, and with Solas’ Scourge, it can be even more with a Master Damage Mod.
- On the other hand, Solas’ Scourge can roll with the perk Chain Reaction, which causes every kill with this weapon to create an elemental damage explosion. This is also enhanced by Energy Accelerant.
If you take one of the swords along with the trace rifle into a loadout, you can currently have a lot of fun in PvE – especially with the once-powerful Withered Image, which Bungie nerfed into obscurity quite some time ago and has since been almost completely forgotten.
Here, Destiny YouTuber Cheese Forever has addressed the topic:
What happens next? Bungie has not commented on this yet. However, it’s very likely that a further hotfix will follow soon. Because even in PvP, these unintended side effects could certainly have consequences. Withered Image probably won’t play a role here (a slam kills a Guardian anyway), but the swords with their tracking projectiles could potentially become a problem due to the increased damage.
What do you think about this? Should Bungie let the Guardians have some fun for a while longer, or is it something that needs to be fixed as soon as possible in your opinion? Let us and other readers know in the comments.
