The Prison of Elders in Destiny 2? Guardians discover clues, Bungie responds!
The Prison of Elders was a game mode in Destiny 1, introduced in spring 2015 with the “House of Wolves” DLC. In it, players entered various arenas in teams of three, where they had to defend themselves against multiple waves of enemies. If they survived the waves and achieved specific objectives within the prison, they gained access to the Queen’s Vault, where there was loot for the Guardians.
This Prison of Elders has now been discovered in the database of Destiny 2, as the Redditor xxoACEoxx announces. What is the significance of this?
What clues are there about the prison?
According to the Redditor, on October 12, a line of code was added regarding activities in the databases. Until now, the name of the activity was missing in this line. It now reads:
DestinyActivityTypeDefinition as of 12/10/2017 Line 15 – {“displayProperties”:{“name”:”Prison of Elders”,”icon”:”/common/destiny2_content/icons/379421028a0209ae0e28122ec8e33454.png”,”hasIcon”:true},”hash”:680256650,”index”:8,”redacted”:false}
The name is now given as “Prison of Elders”, that is, the Prison of Elders. Additionally, the number of the PNG image corresponds to this symbol:
A look into Destiny 1 shows: This symbol is the symbol for the Prison of Elders:
This means: Recently, an entry for the Prison of Elders has undoubtedly been made in the databases of Destiny 2. Its symbol is found therein, and it is even explicitly mentioned.
The Redditor concludes: The Prison of Elders is returning in Destiny 2. The only question is when this will happen.
The Prison of Elders is not returning (for now)
A few hours ago, the community manager Cozmo commented on this find. He clarified:
There are currently no plans to bring the Prison of Elders to Destiny 2. The line of code is merely a remnant. He apologizes for the confusion.
In short: The reference to the Prison of Elders in the databases is not fake; however, we should not expect it in Destiny 2 (for now). That there are currently no plans for it does not mean that it can never happen.
Would you welcome a return of the prison? Could it make the endgame more diverse?
After all, Bungie is currently planning to improve the endgame. Perhaps a PvE horde mode is a solution.
