In Destiny 2, you can take on a very special quest next week. Bungie is honoring a deceased developer by sending you to Mars in this context.
What is this special quest about? In video games, it is not unusual for the community and developers to come together to commemorate a deceased friend or a well-known figure. And Destiny 2 is no exception.
As Bungie stated in the current “This Week at Bungie” blog, you will soon be sent on a special quest on Mars as part of the Season 11.
With this trip to the red planet, Bungie wants to pay tribute to a developer and his contribution to Destiny 2, who passed away last year – Matt Helsom.
The studio did not provide further details about the progression or contents of the short quest. So here it is: wait and be surprised.
When does it start? The quest starts next Tuesday, September 22, with the Weekly Reset – that is, at 7:00 PM German time.
It will then be prominently displayed in the navigator after the weekly reset.
Whom is Bungie honoring exactly? Matt Helsom had been with the studio Vicarious Visions since 2012 – most recently in the role of Senior Artist with a focus on 2D and 3D artwork.
This game studio collaborated with Bungie from 2016 until the separation from Activision in early 2019, working together on Destiny 2. Vicarious Visions was responsible for the PC port of the game, among other things.
During this partnership, Helsom worked closely with teams at Bungie and VV on various projects, and now they want to create a fitting tribute to his contributions in the Destiny universe.
Finally, Bungie wished Helsom’s family, friends, and everyone he influenced all the best with some warm words and thanked in advance all Guardians who want to join the memorial ceremony in his honor.
What else can you expect in Season 11? Originally, the new Season 12 and the big fall expansion Beyond Light were supposed to start soon, on September 22. However, due to the effects of the corona pandemic, Bungie has postponed both the new season and the new expansion to November 10. Thus, the Season of Arrival will continue for quite some time.
But what else is there to do in the extended Season 11 besides the upcoming memorial quest? You can find out here: In Destiny 2, everyone is waiting for Beyond Light – Here’s what you can expect until then in Season 11
So, how does it look? Are you starting on Tuesday with the new quest? What do you think of this initiative?
