In Destiny 2, many Guardians have been waiting for months for new story fragments about the “Worm Exorcism” of Savathûn. However, seemingly nothing has changed for weeks. But now clever Guardians have found out that Bungie is conducting secret construction work that may have something to do with the end of the season.
What is happening behind the scenes? Many Guardians are crossing their fingers and hoping each passing week that new story elements will finally appear. Savathûn, the petrified Witch Queen, is still on ice, and obviously not much else has happened.
At least that is what the Guardians thought, as Bungie has been building a narrow bridge to a tower in the Dreaming City for weeks. This construction went unnoticed by the Guardians so much that no one noticed the change. However, it could be seen in the activity “Astral Alignment”.
Does the bridge lead to the exorcism?
The reddit user TheTealMafia has compiled a photo collage documenting the stealthy construction.
After today’s reset, it was seen that the bridge has even been completely finished. The way to Savathûn is now open, as the well-known PvE player Esoterickk shows in a recent YouTube video:
Anyone who knows Bungie knows that something is implemented into the game for a reason, without being useful in the future. Looking at the change, one can notice that the bridge is stealthily making its way to the demolished Awoken Tower.
This tower could soon be used as a ritual site for the exorcism, yet something so obvious has hardly gone unnoticed.
What are the Guardians doing instead? In Destiny 2, many Guardians have already given up hope of playing the final mission. Every weekly reset, they would go to Savathûn to possibly trigger a cutscene or mission and finally complete the longest season. This has not happened to this day, yet everyone is waiting for a cliffhanger that will finally propel the story forward.
What could happen after the exorcism? Nobody can predict yet what the consequences will be for the Guardians when the Witch Queen is “freed” from her worm. However, looking at the trailers where Savathûn appears, it does not seem that the worm has been removed. She still possesses the bright green glowing eyes that the parasitic worms also have.
Osiris is also missing, and many Guardians, especially Saint-14, hope for a happy ending and the decisive return of the Vex fanatic. However, one can infer that there will be no good ending for either party; it remains to be seen what Savathûn has planned.
