Destiny 2 lacks a “free-for-all” mode. With the return of Rumble, that would change.
“Take care of yourself, Guardian. No one else will do it.”
With these or similar words, Lord Shaxx welcomed players in the Crucible when playing a round of Rumble in Destiny 1. Because Rumble was a PvP mode where everyone fought against everyone: There were no allies, there was no mercy. Everyone was an enemy.
Such a game mode is missing in Destiny 2. There are two reasons for this:
- All PvP modes are played in 4vs4. A “free-for-all” mode does not fit in.
- And the PvP modes rely on teamwork. A mode that only solo players can participate in also does not fit into the concept.
However, there are indications that Rumble could indeed return. And possibly soon.
No Rumble at Launch, but maybe in 2018
Official information about the Rumble mode is scarce. In June 2017, Community Manager DeeJ stated that there would definitely be no Rumble at the launch of Destiny 2. However, this phrasing leaves open the possibility – and keeps the hope of many Guardians alive – that Rumble might be added sometime after launch.
Datamining findings now fuel hope: Yes, Rumble is likely making a return soon.
Just a few weeks ago, we reported that TrialsReport, a normally reliable source, rummaged through the latest game files and discovered “new” PvP modes for Destiny 2. Among them were Mayhem, Rumble, and Elimination. They published these finds even before it was officially announced that Mayhem would come to the game with the Dawning event.
It is therefore quite possible that Guardians in Destiny 2 will soon be able to play Rumble and Elimination again. Especially since the database entry for Rumble was recently updated and now has a description (the description is different from that in Destiny 1, so it is likely not just a simple placeholder that was copied over):
Keep in mind that these are merely database entries that do not prove that Rumble will actually return at some point. It is possible though. And since Rumble and Elimination came into the game files at the same time as Mayhem, they could become active quite soon.
There are hints in the databases that the “Crimson Week” could take place again in February 2018. Possibly together with the “Crimson Doubles”, which represents a kind of Elimination. Around February 14, it might be time for the return of Elimination.
What is your opinion on this? Are you excited for the return of Rumble and Elimination? Or would you prefer completely new PvP modes?
