In Destiny 2 the move from Battle.net to Steam is still ongoing. It will start on October 1st. However, the preload is already working and Destiny 2 “Shadowkeep” is storming the bestseller list. The game is in 1st and 2nd place. The exciting news, however, will come tomorrow: How many players does Destiny 2 have on PC?
Where is Destiny 2 number 1 on Steam? In the global top sellers, Destiny 2 Shadowkeep has secured the top spot on Steam twice:
- The top spot goes to Destiny 2: Shadowkeep Digital Deluxe Edition for €59.99
- Destiny 2: Shadowkeep in the standard version costs €34.99 and is in 2nd place
This puts Destiny ahead of the current top game Code Vein and enduring hits like PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds or Grand Theft Auto 5.
Guardians grant Bungie a trust advance
Here’s the interesting part: That a new AAA game starts strong in the Steam charts is not news that makes you want to scream: “You cannot imagine what I read on this page, where I usually just jump into the comments and complain about Xur’s loot,” but there is one exciting detail:
Apparently, more people purchased the €25 more expensive Deluxe Edition of Destiny 2 Shadowkeep than the normal standard version.
This is a trend that has been observed with Destiny 2. Players tend to buy the Deluxe Edition with the Season Pass in advance instead of just getting the starter package and then purchasing it later when they like Destiny 2.
Guardians once again give Bungie a high trust advance. In Destiny 2, this only paid off moderately upon release.
Some regretted later having purchased the Season Pass, especially since the contents were later added to the standard version.
Where Will Destiny 2 Stand in Player Numbers?
This is the big question: The release of Destiny 2 on Steam is not until October 1st. At launch, some PvE content will still be missing for Destiny 2 on Steam.
Starting October 1st, we will know exactly how Destiny 2 currently holds up on Steam compared to other games. Because on Steam, player numbers are visible at any time.
While we will only know how many play Destiny 2 on PC, these will be the first official player numbers coming from Destiny 2 in years.
