In Destiny 2, the first progress on the community challenge is known. Bungie says “Wow”, but Nokris requires a few more face punches.
This community achievement is about: From September 3rd to September 10th, the first so-called community challenge in Destiny 2 will take place. You must together as Guardians complete 5 tasks on Mars, then all participants will receive an emblem as a reward as well as more loot in the Menagerie.
In the tasks, you must defeat numerous Hive enemies on Mars, wave 7 Escalation Protocol bosses, and the Mars Nightfall bosses Nokris and Xol, as well as use several override frequencies .
Unfortunately, there is no tracker displayed in the game that constantly and live shows the progress of these tasks. But Bungie has now – as promised – published initial numbers via Twitter:
- defeated 175,000 wave 7 Escalation Protocol bosses – so far 110,792 completed (63%)
- defeated 300 million Hive enemies on Mars – so far 78,622,959 completed (26%)
- defeated Nokris in the Mars Nightfall “Strange Terrain” 150,000 times – so far 24,893 completed (16.6%)
- defeated Xol in the Mars Nightfall “Will of the Thousands” 100,000 times – so far 22,386 completed (22%)
- used 300,000 override frequencies – so far 133,834 completed (44%)
When are the numbers from? The numbers show the first 24 hours of the community challenge. From September 3rd at 7 PM to September 4th at 7 PM.
Nokris Challenge might get tight
What does that mean for the challenge? Currently, the Guardians are on track to secure the rewards. The Escalation Protocol bosses should be completed today, and the override frequencies are not a problem either. But you should now focus on the strike bosses – especially Nokris.
On reddit, it has already been calculated how long this challenge will take if the Guardians maintain this pace:
- Escalation Protocol bosses – 1 day, 14 hours
- Override frequencies – 2 days, 6 hours, 33 minutes
- defeating Hive – 3 days, 30 hours, 18 minutes
- Xol – 4 days, 13 hours
- Nokris – 6 days, 6 hours
Since you only have 7 days total, the Nokris task could become quite tight. On reddit, the Guardians are now motivating each other to play the “Strange Terrain” Nightfall strike more frequently to complete the challenge ahead of schedule.
You can approach the Escalation Protocol more slowly. After all, it doesn’t really pay off until Shadowkeep.
“So if I read this correctly, we need to slap more Nokris cheeks,” summarizes a Guardian these numbers and receives hundreds of upvotes.

The Nokris Nightfall can be completed in just a few minutes. Activate Arc Burn, take the Wardcliff Coil and humiliate Nokris.
Bungie says “Wow”
What does Bungie say about the current progress? On Twitter, the official Destiny channel writes that the first 24 hours were “impressive”. You have definitely taken on the challenge, but there is still quite a ways to go.
Community manager dmg04 adds: “All I can say is wow”. He also thanks for all the feedback regarding the first community challenge. It is cool to observe this engagement.
He reveals that this community challenge was actually meant to be just a test run – something that was thought up during brainstorming to fill a week after Shadowkeep was delayed.
Along with the game comfort changes from the last update, this test run turned out to be something quite fun.
