Destiny 2 is known as the loot shooter par excellence. Shooting aliens in the face and grabbing the well-deserved loot, that’s what everyone loves. But Bungie increasingly cuts back on farmable resources and restricts the players’ freedoms, despite the status of “loot shooter”.
How much freedom do Guardians have in Destiny 2? New players would be overwhelmed by the variety of freedoms. Open worlds to explore, ample storage for countless weapons and armor, and large quantities of resources that can be stored in the inventory.
However, long-time players who have had time to study Destiny 2 see that Bungie drastically restricts many freedoms in its loot shooter. Especially regarding looting.
Bungie limits resources even in Witch Queen – Why?
Even during the Halloween event 2021 in Destiny 2, players expressed frustration over the artificial limits. Guardians are prevented from collecting resources at their own pace. Whether it’s the standard currency Glimmer or other materials needed to upgrade armor and weapons.
The frustration is understandable, as Guardians do not expect limits in a loot shooter regarding the hoarding of weapons, armor, or resources. Players simply want to loot and decide for themselves what they need and want to keep and what not.
Thinking about whether there’s enough space in the post office before the Ascendant Shards are sent to the virtual abyss ruins the fun for many players.
What is it like in Witch Queen? In Witch Queen, a new feature was introduced, namely the forging of your own God Rolls. Many Guardians were excited and looked forward to finally being able to create their own gun. But once again, Bungie has set new limit boundaries.
You cannot continuously pull materials from the Deep Sight resonance weapons. Eventually, you hit a limit and have to wait until the next weekly reset. If you dismantle one of the finished weapons, you also won’t get any materials from it. Nevertheless, the option to extract the resonances remains active. This fact dampens the spirits of many players and makes them less inclined to try out many cool perk combinations.
Why does Bungie impose such caps? Bungie has not commented exactly on this. Regarding the vault spaces, there may be a problem, as too many spaces for each Guardian could cause issues in the system.
It’s conceivable that Bungie wishes to prevent exploits through these artificial caps. Clear boundaries cannot be surpassed by anyone and thus prevent manageable problem areas. However, this is merely speculation. What is clear is that the caps annoy every player tremendously.
What do you think about the caps? Do they hinder your enjoyment of the game or do you not care and can play without any problems? Let us know!
