The Iron Banner returns in Destiny 2! When does the Iron Banner start in October and what items can be earned?
Lord Saladin himself visits the Tower of Destiny 2 next week to bring the Guardians the first Iron Banner in the sequel! This was announced by Bungie.
The Iron Banner is a monthly PvP event, simultaneously being the oldest event in Destiny. Lord Saladin held an “Iron Banner” during the Destiny beta back in summer 2014. Now it returns in Destiny 2.
- When does the first Iron Banner start in Destiny 2? It begins on October 10 at 11 AM.
- When does the Iron Banner end in October? It ends on October 17 at 11 AM. It lasts exactly one week.
- The game mode is Control.

What’s new in the Iron Banner in Destiny 2?
At first glance, not much has changed in the Iron Banner:
- It remains a monthly PvP event.
- It still lasts exactly one week from Tuesday to Tuesday – even though it started at 7 PM in Destiny 1 and not at 11 AM.
- An NPC, a contact person for the Iron Banner, will come to a social space during this time.
However, there are a few significant changes:
- You now fight in 4-player teams against each other – a 4v4 as in all PvP modes in Destiny 2. Until now, the Iron Banner was 6v6.
- Your combat abilities, not your power level, are supposed to be decisive – which likely means that power level advantages are disabled.
- There are no Iron Banner bounties and no rank – there are only Iron Banner Engrams.
- Lord Saladin returns as the Iron Banner contact person. After filling this position for two years in Destiny 1, he was replaced in year 3 by Lord Efrideet. Now Lord Saladin takes over again.
Participation Requirements:
- You must have unlocked the Tower, meaning you have to complete the main campaign.
- Visit Lord Saladin next week to start an Iron Banner quest.
- You will then fight in the Iron Banner through the Iron Banner playlist, which uses quick play matchmaking.
Rewards in the Iron Banner in October
What loot can Guardians look forward to?
- You will receive Iron Banner Tokens after each match. If you win, you will receive more.
- There are daily and seasonal milestones that track your progress.
- There are new Iron Banner armor pieces to earn, forged in the forges of the Iron Lords:
Iron Banner weapons have not been presented yet.
Important: For the Iron Banner, you do not need pre-made teams like in the Trials of the Nine. There is normal matchmaking. If you start the activity solo, you will be randomly matched with team members.
Note: There are seasonal milestones in the Iron Banner. Also in the Clan system, there are seasons. How long a season lasts, what changes from season to season, and how many seasons there will be, Bungie will reveal at TwitchCon 2017. They will hold a livestream starting on October 20.
What do you think of the new Iron Banner? Many Guardians are disappointed on reddit. They hoped that at least the Iron Banner would remain 6v6. Additionally, they are surprised that power level advantages are not activated here either – which actually contradicts the lore. Because Lord Saladin has always held the Iron Banner to test the Light power of the Guardians. Therefore, it was expected that level advantages would be active …
Not only the Iron Banner, the Prestige Raid also starts next week in Destiny 2!
