Destiny 2 Beyond Light answers the question: What’s cooler than a ninja? Only an ice ninja! We take a look at the nasty skills and for the first time at Stasis grenades.
What’s new: Today, on September 8th, Bungie finally revealed the third and final Stasis class that we will use to save the universe in the Beyond Light expansion. This is all about the Hunter and his frosty ninja skills. We also finally know what Stasis grenades are about.
How cool the Hunter will be: The new Hunter focus is called Revenant and is said by Bungie to be inspired by ninjas. In Destiny, ninjas use weapons made of ice and freeze enemies with shurikens – only to then shatter them impressively.
Along with the fresh information, a short clip has been released showing the Revenant in action:

Stasis Abilities & Skills of the Revenant Hunter in Beyond Light
This is how the Stasis melee works: For melee attacks, you have shurikens at your disposal. Though the “melee” is misleading, as you throw the parts. The ability is called “Withering Blade”.
This is what the Stasis shurikens can do:
- The blades bounce off walls and enemies and fly to the next target
- Hit enemies are slowed down and take Stasis damage
- If you hit a target with two shurikens, it freezes completely
In the gameplay trailer, it was also shown that this even throws opposing Guardians in the Crucible out of their Super and they freeze into ice sculptures. It remains to be seen how strong the “aiming” of the throwing stars is and how high the damage is compared to the typical throwing knife.
This is what the new super can do: Revenants can activate the ultimate ability “Silence and Squall” (Ruhe und Sturm). In doing so, they summon two ice weapons.
Both kama – that’s what the ninja sickles are called – can be thrown and have different functions:
- Deadly Blade: When the first blade hits, a Stasis wave freezes everything in a wide area
- Stasis Storm: Blade number 2 creates a storm upon impact that pulls enemies in, slows them down, and freezes them
The slowing and pinning down resemble the Void Arrow – but now you can also pull enemies who thought they were safe and deal substantial Stasis damage to them.
How long the two blades stay active and whether you have to throw both weapons immediately one after the other is currently unknown.
You can customize your Stasis class
Like all Stasis classes, you can also cultivate the Revenant into a killer machine tailored to your needs. This is made possible by the new system of aspects and fragments.
With this, you can give your skills and abilities additional effects or specifically enhance the abilities you use. Especially powerful bonuses can also come with negative modifiers – so you’ll have to weigh your options.
As a concrete example, Bungie mentioned ways to customize your class ability:
- You can add a Stasis effect to your dodge jump. This way, you can slow nearby enemies with every dive roll
- Alternatively, you can dodge in the air, bringing you quickly to the ground and triggering a shockwave upon landing
Stasis Grenades
What can the 3 new toys do? Until now, there has been no concrete information about the individual grenades of the Stasis classes. Now Bungie has finally revealed this. The assumption that Titans, Warlocks, and Hunters can access the identical Stasis grenades has been confirmed.
- Glacier grenades create ice walls and Stasis crystals. We have prominently seen these in the trailers. Thus, Guardians can create new platforms or summon cover out of nowhere – if the Stasis constructs are destroyed, they trigger a shatter explosion
- Cold Snap grenades seek up to three targets and instantly freeze them – think of an Axion bolt, only much colder
- Icefield grenades create a Stasis field that sucks in nearby enemies. Everything in the area of effect is slowed down – if enemies are exposed to Stasis for too long, they freeze.
