Destiny 2 is coming to an end soon, and if it’s not happening through the story, then it’s likely due to its outdated software. An older leak from Reddit is therefore intriguing, announcing an ultimate ability from “The Final Shape” and revealing a secret project from Bungie.
What is this leak? It is a leak from the Destiny2Leaks subreddit. In this, an insider revealed information about the upcoming DLC “The Final Shape”.
According to him, Bungie was working on a new talent – Prism – during its DLC delay. With this, guardians will be able to mix the powers of light and darkness to become even more powerful. Anyone who paid attention during Bungie’s last stream can confirm that this leak is correct. Guardians will soon be able to mix many familiar abilities with the “Prismatic” ability.
What is interesting is that this leak was published one month before the stream and came from an unknown insider. However, the insider had more information, and this relates to Destiny 3 and its development – you read that right. Destiny 3 is or was in the works.
Bungie is said to be working on Project “Payback” to make amends to fans
What is Project “Payback”? The second half of the leak from user 32638272187 deals with the development of Destiny 3 and Bungie’s current stance on it. Here’s what the leaker had to reveal:
Destiny 3 is (was? Not sure) in development under the codename Payback. One of the major changes for Destiny 3 is (was, still unclear) that there will be no more classes, allowing each character to specialize in any ability, as there is no reason in the lore why one couldn’t (Hunters specifically learned Blink from Warlocks, and Blink is not tied to a single element, hence the logic there).
According to him, the development team is or was working on Destiny 3, but under the codename “Payback”. In another thread (via reddit.com), the leaker goes into more detail about the developers’ choice of codename. Payback was chosen for a reason. Bungie wants to make amends with Destiny 3 (Payback), according to the leaker. They want to create something that they hope everyone will enjoy. A kind of repayment to the community, so to speak.
Unfortunately, the leak does not clarify whether Bungie is still working on Project “Payback” and what the future of Destiny 2 looks like. However, he makes it clear that he does not intend to suggest that the guardians will lose the fight against the darkness in “The Final Shape”.
Could the leak be true? Leaks should always be taken with a grain of salt. However, in this case, there might be something to the secret project from Bungie. Anyone who has followed the development of Destiny 2 knows that many familiar faces from the development of the loot shooter have been removed – including Luke Smith, a well-known figure from Destiny.
He was supposed to work with other smart minds from the development team on the “Destiny” brand to make it bigger. So it could be that Luke Smith has indeed been working on Destiny 3 behind the scenes.
It’s also strange why Luke Smith was the first to speak in the last Destiny 2 stream and made it clear that “The Final Shape” will not be the end of Destiny 2 and certainly not the end of Destiny in general.
What does the cryptic message mean, and does it hint at the mastermind of Destiny suggesting a possible continuation with a different story? What do you think?
