What is infusing and when should you do it in Destiny 2?
Infusing refers to the process of merging a high power-level gear piece into an item with a low power level to raise the power level of the weaker item. The infused item disappears.
Infusing only works with weapons and armor pieces of Legendary (purple) and Exotic (yellow) quality. Only these can be upgraded. However, items of lower quality (blue) can be “infused into” these items.
Infusing makes sense, for example, if you want to continue using a weapon with a low power level because you handle it particularly well: The weapon feels right, or you just find the design cool.

An example: Your power weapon has a power level of 250. Now you receive a second power weapon of the same type with a power level of 265 (260 normal and +5 points due to the modifiers). You infuse the weapon with a power level of 265 into the weapon with 250.
As a result, you receive a power weapon with a power level of 260. What happened? The weapon to be infused had a mod that increased the power by 5. Since the weapon is destroyed in the infusion process, the mod is also destroyed.
What sounds like a disadvantage works in the opposite case as well. If the weapon being upgraded contains this mod, it benefits from it when infused.
