The year 2020 is slowly coming to an end. But there is still plenty to do in Destiny 2. We show you what to look forward to until the end of the year.
What is currently happening in Destiny 2? Many guardians are still deeply engaged in the content of the new expansion Beyond Light, for example, running the new raid or playing new exotics like the sniper Cloudstrike or the sword The Lament. Additionally, the Season 12, the Season of the Hunt, is also running, offering new content like the Fallen Wrath hunts.
However, as the year 2020 is slowly coming to an end, it traditionally gets a bit quieter in Destiny 2. Therefore, we take a look at the content you can expect in this now started last month of the year.
What else does the year 2020 bring?
Even though December is relatively quiet, there are still one or two pieces of content waiting for you.
Next-Gen Upgrade: On December 8, Destiny 2 will receive the new update 3.0.1. This includes, among other things, the next-gen upgrade for the new consoles PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.
This is supposed to make Destiny 2 run better on next-gen platforms and allow the game to finally fully benefit from the new technical possibilities. On there, Destiny 2 will, for example, have higher FPS, true 4K resolution, or a FoV slider. However, you will have to redownload the entire game on PS5 and the new Xbox models.

Iron Banner: On December 8, the first Iron Banner of the new Season 12 will start. This should again give players the chance to push their power level with additional powerful and pinnacle rewards, as well as to grind for some new weapons and armor pieces.
However, the weapons and gear are not really new. They are just already known items – 2 weapons and an armor set, now with a new power level cap of 1,410.
The two weapons – with new perks – are
- the kinetic scout rifle “The Smallest Reprisal” (from Season 1)
- as well as the kinetic hand cannon “The Last Hand” (from Season 1)
The armors are from the “Iron Will” set (previously appeared in Season 8).
By the way, what is also interesting in connection with the Iron Banner: Currently, it seems that Destiny 2 is rebuilding the old destroyed tower from part 1. And the new Iron Banner quest from Season 12 is called “A Tower rebuilt”. It could be that we will make a detour to the old tower as part of this quest. It will definitely be exciting.
“The Dawning”: The Dawning is a winter event. In principle, this refers to the Christmas festivities in the world of Destiny.
This gives the Tower of the Last City a Christmas look. You can then bake cookies according to various recipes and secure festive loot. The Eververse will also receive many thematically inspired items in its inventory.
No details about this year’s Dawning event have been presented so far, but it is expected that it will take place just like it did in previous years, or at least similarly. This winter event is set to begin on December 15 and will run until January 5, 2020 – spanning into the new year.
In previous years, a new event weapon was always introduced. Leaks suggest that this time it might be a fusion rifle.
Trials of Osiris with new content: The PvP pinnacle activity “Trials of Osiris” was supposed to attract more players to the Crucible with the start of Beyond Light and Season 12 – with new adept weapons and master mods.
However, that hasn’t happened yet, and guardians are still waiting for the first Trials of the new season. The Trials have been postponed week after week since the launch of the new content due to bugs and glitches. In short: No one has seen the new adept weapons or mods yet.
The last information from Bungie was from November 27.
It was stated that the Trials were deactivated again for that (past) weekend. No exact time was given for their start in the context of the new season, but it is expected (or at least hoped) that it will finally start in December.
Will Hawkmoon come this year? Beyond Light and Season 12 have already brought various new exotics into the game. However, it has already been confirmed from an official source that the iconic hand cannon Hawkmoon is set to return in this season of the hunt – apparently as a reward at the end of a quest.
No date has been set for this, but there are speculations that it might happen this year. The well-known data miner Ginsor recently discovered two ornaments for the “new” weapon exotic in new game data.
Some consider this a hint that the weapon could soon come into the game. But that is not certain.
