In the new TWaB of Destiny 2, changes regarding the PvEvP mode “Gambit” have been announced. These will take effect with Witch Queen. Bungie is polishing some mechanics and even removing one of the most annoying bosses. We will show you how Gambit is changing soon.
What was the TWaB about? In Bungie’s new weekly post, the development team finally provided new information regarding Gambit. The PvEvP mode made its entrance into the loot shooter with the Forsaken expansion. Some time has passed since then, and not much has changed.
The mode has not received any updates or other changes that could have brought a fresh breeze. Bungie has noticed this and has promised many changes for Witch Queen, which Guardians can expect on February 22.
The changes are coming!
Bungie has categorized the changes into five categories:
- Core Activity
- Primal Tuning
- Ammunition Economy
- Invasions
- Rewards
Here we list the most important information and show you what could potentially be problematic.
Core Activity
Players who have played Gambit enough know how nerve-wracking it can be when matched solo with randoms. Usually, the match proceeds uncoordinated and the opposing team, consisting of four players, quickly wins the round. This should become a thing of the past with the introduced Freelance mode.
But the Freelance mode isn’t the only new feature. Invaders will now receive new spawn points. This way, you can’t simply “spawn trap” them, allowing your team to re-enter the combat more quickly after dying.
The Primals and Blockers
These possessed beasts can quickly throw a good round off balance in groups. Adjustments have also been made here.
- The 10th particle blocker will receive increased health, as they appeared too weak in relation to the particles deployed.
- The 15th particle blocker will receive a Stasis weapon instead of the Void thrower now. They are not as deadly anymore but still pose a tactical challenge, especially if there is also an invader on the field.
The most annoying feature of particle removal while two blockers relax on your bank has also changed. You will no longer lose particles while fighting the blockers. As soon as someone from your team is near the bank, you will also stop the stealing.
However, note: If your team has already summoned the primal, summoned blockers will still steal your particles. This gives the losing team the chance to catch up.
What else was removed? The most famous and incredibly annoying boss in Gambit history will finally be removed with Witch Queen. It is the flying, possessed Servitor. Due to its shield mechanics, the damage phase often became bugged. It stressed players and sometimes led to outbursts of anger. Bungie noticed this and has sent him to the afterlife – forever.
Are there changes in the boss fight? An important change is the spawning of the envoys in the boss fight. They no longer spawn near the boss, but in one of the three areas. As a result, Guardians must remain in motion to receive the “Butcher buff”.
This can become frustrating, especially if invaders prevent you from getting there. You also cannot ignore the envoys as they now grant the boss an invulnerability shield.
Ammunition Economy
Ammo is often scarce in Gambit. Occasionally, a heavy ammo pack spawns in the middle of the map, but only one player on the team can pick it up. This mechanic has often been counterproductive. Many players often had only primary ammo for too long. Therefore, Bungie has completely renewed the ammunition system.
You will now receive an ammunition box after completing an area in the center of the battlefield.
Upon interaction, this gives a bit of special and heavy ammo. The good thing is that anyone can interact with this box and supply themselves. But don’t take too much time, the box disappears after 20 seconds.
Killing a high-ranking target also rewards your team with a package of heavy ammo. To be prepared for the final fight against the primal, you will also receive an ammunition box every 60 seconds. This also spawns in one of the three areas.
Invasions
There have also been minor adjustments in invasions:
- Invasions are now granted at 40 and 80 particle progress.
- You cannot hoard invasions anymore; either you use them, or you miss them.
- The invader no longer sees how many particles the opponents have.
- So you can no longer spot the 15-particle carriers.
- You also can no longer see the players’ names.
- Players can still be seen through walls, though.
Thus, Bungie has shifted the focus away from bullying the invader to teamwork and quickly hoarding particles.
Rewards
Since all items from Gambit are pure RNG, you can now focus on engrams for specific Gambit weapons and armor in Witch Queen. These engrams will cost you 10,000 Glimmer and 50 Legendary Shards per focus. This makes Gambit the second mode to receive this overhaul. Bungie plans to apply this to other activities in the future as this system is well-received by players.
New Gambit weapons will only be available as RNG drops and will be ready for focus after the past season.
Old shaders missed from the Vagabond will also have a chance to drop after completed matches, making the games more attractive again.
That wasn’t all. We have introduced you to most of the changes. If you want to read and capture all the changes, we have included the TWaB in the sources.
What do you think of the changes that are coming soon? Are they interesting, and do they make Gambit more attractive? Or are the changes not enough for you? Let us know!
