In Destiny 2, many things will change with “The Final Shape”, and one of them is sunsetting. Bungie has retired many good weapons, but now these weapons should be usable again. What Bungie says about it and how the community reacts, you can find out here.
What has Bungie announced? Bungie announced in their latest TWID post from last week, that old weapons that have fallen victim to sunsetting are set to return. So, old weapons that you have kept but can no longer infuse will be relevant again with the release of “The Final Shape”. You will be able to use them in any activity and push them to the highest light level.
Despite the great news, players will now wonder why the change is coming only now. Many fans have already dismantled their old firearms to make enough space in their vault. So, the adjustment comes too late for many.
Bungie regrets that many Guardians have deleted their weapons
How does Bungie justify its change? According to the developers, the change has to do with the development of fireteam power. There was an issue with legacy gear because when your fireteam’s archetype boosts your power, power limits are ignored—also those of old weapons.
After the team analyzed the issue, they concluded to lift the power limits on old weapons. This means you can use old weapons with their grayed-out season symbol again and infuse them. Despite the great change, this comes too late for some players. Many Guardians have dismantled their old relics by now before the release of “The Final Shape” to make space.
Bungie is aware of this and also regrets that there is no system to restore them, but hope is not completely lost. The developers plan in the future for a way to obtain modern variants of these weapons to complete your collection again.
What do players say? The mood on social media is extremely positive. Many fans are happy that it was worth keeping their old mementos. Despite this, some players are also disappointed because sunsetting has caused too much damage:
- “There were many issues. I lost 8 friends I could play with. They said this decision was the last straw. I will still be devoted, but I have lost some of the best raid players. […]” – xMADJORAx
- “I have great respect for you all reconsidering this decision. Keep it up!” – GeekElysium
- “I can’t say that this is undoubtedly one of the biggest changes you have made, but I can’t help but feel a bittersweet feeling as I deleted almost all of my sunset weapons. I would have loved to use some of my OG weapons from the first year of Destiny to kill the Witness.” – Ward0701
