In Destiny 2, the “30 Years of Bungie” anniversary started yesterday, bringing new content to the game that is meant to remind players of glorious moments in Destiny 2’s history. Among them are familiar faces such as the exotic rocket launcher “Gjallarhorn”. We will let you know how to obtain the weapon and where to find the catalyst.
Since yesterday, another iconic weapon from Destiny 1, the Gjallarhorn, has returned to Destiny 2. The exotic rocket launcher was high on the Guardians’ wish list. The first good news is that it no longer takes weeks to obtain the rocket launcher. In Destiny 2, the Gjallarhorn is available through a quest that can be completed after just a few hours of gameplay. The second good news is that the rocket launcher is really well made, and you immediately feel why this weapon was once so powerful and popular.
These prerequisites must be met:
- The quest is only available to owners of the “30 Years of Bungie” package.
- You must have either purchased the small anniversary package or the “The Witch Queen” Digital Deluxe package including “30 Years of Bungie”.
All information about the Bungie anniversary and the activities included can be read here:
How to get the Gjallarhorn in Destiny 2?
After an initial flight to Xur in the new location “Eternity” and a chat with him and his neighing friend, you will receive the quest “All Wolves Fly High”. In it, Xur asks you to speak with Shaw Han in the Cosmodrome.
The quest consists of a total of eight steps that you must complete.
Talk to Shaw Han in the Cosmodrome
So fly to the Cosmodrome and visit Shaw Han at the landing point “The Steppes”. He has discovered a strange crystal shard in the former loot cave and needs your assistance. After that, the adventure begins, as you will now have access to the new dungeon and are tasked with exploring it.
Step 1: Play the dungeon “Siphon of Greed”
The new dungeon is in the Cosmodrome: You can select the dungeon directly from the overview map in the Cosmodrome. It is a 3-player activity structured like a small mini-raid. As always, there is no player search, so a full fireteam is advisable. The mechanics and the enemies in each encounter are quite challenging, and there are also some traps and tricks that Bungie has prepared for you.
There are two difficulty levels: The activity itself has two possible difficulty levels. You can play it either on Legend or on Grandmaster. The Grandmaster contains champions and the modifier “Precision” is active. However, for the quest and for the initial exploration, completing it on Legend is sufficient. For all players seeking a challenge, the Grandmaster variant is ideal.
Small tip: The dungeon is initially locked by a mechanic. However, the enemies killed near you drop plenty of fake engrams. Collect these quickly to receive the debuff “Burdened with Wealth” times X. The more engrams you collect, the better. Then, before the timer expires, deliver them at the crystal. It suffices to simply stand in front of the crystal. After you’ve done this a few times, the door will be open and you can enter the dungeon.
Step 2: Visit Shaw Han
Once you have successfully completed the dungeon, you will possess the first pack of shots. Step 2 of the quest “All Wolves Fly High” sends you back to Shaw to report to him. He immediately recognizes the connection to the famous Gjallarhorn and notes that it is now time to retrieve this weapon.
Step 3: Find and collect pack shots
Collect even more traces of the former Gjallarhorn: To fully restore the weapon, you now need all 7 packs of shots. In Step 3 of the quest, Shaw Han assigns you to search for the missing packs of shots from powerful Fallen looters nearby.
Public events provide quick progress: An ideal way to collect the pack shots is the public event “Glimmer Extraction” in the Steppes in the Cosmodrome. There, you can take down several powerful Fallen. The drop rate for a pack shot is random, but it shouldn’t take too long. If you don’t want to wait, visit a Lost Sector.
Step 4: Get the base housing from Shaw Han
It’s not long now until you can fully assemble the weapon. You need a targeting system, an armored housing, and other parts. However, Shaw Han can only provide you with a base housing. For the remaining parts, he sends you to Banshee-44 on the Tower in the next quest step.
Step 5: You need a skilled gunsmith
Upon reaching the Tower, Banshee-44 can provide you with the remaining parts. He then hands you a trigger mechanism for the Gjallarhorn. However, he does not have the remaining parts, but knows where you can find them.
Step 6: Play a Lost Sector in the Cosmodrome
Banshee has identified the required parts in the Lost Sector “Exodus Garden 2A”. The Fallen brought many parts there after the Red War, which they plundered on the Tower.
Here you can find the required Lost Sector:
Once you have defeated the sector boss, you will find the required part in the loot chest, activating step 7 of 8 in the quest.
Step 7: Fly to the Cosmodrome and create your legend
All the parts are there; now you only need to assemble the iconic weapon at Shaw Han’s stash. So fly back to “The Steppes”. Right at the landing point is Shaw’s makeshift stash where you can put everything together.
Step 8: A special little thing is still missing
If all components are assembled, you will receive a “Nearly Complete Gjallarhorn”. Step 8 of the quest sends you back to Shaw one last time. He has special part for your new legend of the winged wolf, which he has kept for a moment like this for a long time.
With that, the quest is complete, and you will receive your newly forged Gjallarhorn, with which you can now become a legend.

This is how you find the Gjallarhorn masterpiece catalyst
Now that you possess the exotic rocket launcher Gjallarhorn, you can also earn the catalyst for it and make your legend even more powerful. To do this, return to the dungeon “Siphon of Greed”. It does not matter what difficulty level you start the activity on.
The Gjallarhorn catalyst hides in secret chests: Your goal is to kill three powerful Vandals, take their debuff, and use it to open three hidden chests in the dungeon. If you succeed, you will receive the Gjallarhorn catalyst from the third chest.
AndyEdition has made a practical video showing you where to find these “catalyst chests” and the required enemies:
This is how to activate the masterpiece catalyst: After the third chest, you can either complete the dungeon or leave again. Completing the activity is not necessary. To activate the catalyst afterwards, you just need to kill 400 enemies with the rocket launcher.
This is what the Gjallarhorn catalyst can do: Once the catalyst is complete, it allows your exotic rocket launcher to reload faster and generates additional stronger rockets when your packs of shots kill an enemy. Additionally, the magazine size increases to 2 rockets.
Especially interesting is the perk “Pack Hunter”: When playing in a fireteam, the Gjallarhorn is even stronger thanks to “Pack Hunter”, as handling and reload speed improve near allies. When the weapon is fired, allies with non-exotic rocket launchers also receive the “Pack Shots” buff.
The perk Pack Hunter was born when we reflected on player experience in the original Destiny. Often, fireteam leaders demand that everyone in the group equips Gjallarhorn for harder content like raids, much to the dismay of players who did not yet have the weapon. I thought it would be fun to turn this idea on its head by only requiring one person to equip the weapon while everyone in the group could ‘have’ Gjallarhorn.
