Your Reward: Tale of a Dead Man
This is what the Exotic Scout can do: Tale of a Dead Man is a scout rifle for the kinetic slot. The primary weapon with a 14-round magazine has a rate of fire of 120, making it the only scout rifle with that rate. Instead of a large scope, the Western rifle aims using iron sights.
These are the exotic perks:
- Cranial Spike: Precision hits increase damage and improve reload speed. You can stack the buff up to 5 times.
- Transformative: This exotic can drop with random rolls. Similar to Moonfang, you won’t have completely fixed properties, but can receive perks randomly like a legendary weapon.
- This way, you can customize Tale of a Dead Man to your needs – if you’re lucky with loot.

Notably, the sound is also impressive; with a maximum buff stack, the iconic banjo known from cowboy movies even plays in the background.
Where to get random rolls? Once you have earned the weapon, you can restart the Omens mission from orbit. Currently, you can only get the exotic at the end with random traits with one character per week (the scout is then even top loot).
- It is worth noting that it is enough to complete the mission with one guardian to also start it with your secondary or tertiary character.
- Regarding the question of whether every season will feature an exotic with random rolls, the community manager of Bungie has answered: According to Dylan “dmg04” Gaffner, they do not want to exclude more exotics of this kind. However, it may take a while before something similar goes live again (via Twitter).
- If you are looking for teammates, the official Destiny 2 Companion App is a good choice. Since the surprising start of the mission, there has been a strong demand there – even without microphone requirements.
The Masterwork Catalyst and more secrets on board
Is more to come? Data mining finds suggest that there are still some secrets lurking in the mission. There has also been talk of a harder version of Omens.
In the dark corridors of the spaceship, you will encounter data pads, a surprisingly lavish jet in the style of Calus, and a hologram in the form of the Emperor’s head.
Additionally, Tale of a Dead Man has a Masterwork Catalyst, which is not yet in the game and is expected to be available during Season 13. According to database entries, it is supposed to improve hip-fire accuracy and increase fire rate when shooting from the hip.
