Finally, the developers revealed how to obtain older exotics from rotating game content in Destiny 2 starting this fall.
What’s happening in Destiny 2 this fall: On November 10, the new expansion “Beyond Light” will be released for Destiny 2. This will not only bring new content to the game but also a significant overhaul for Destiny 2.
The shooter cannot simply continue to grow. Thus, Bungie has devised a system (Destiny Content Vault, DCV for short) where content from both Destiny games is stored and can then rotate in and out of Destiny 2.
In short, some existing content from Destiny 2 will disappear this fall with the help of the DCV, but new content will be added to the game.
The impact of rotation on exotics: This rotation will not only affect playable content like locations, strikes, missions, or raids but also the availability of some weapon exotics.
Many examples of these exotic weapons will no longer be available through traditional means (quests, missions). Because one or more steps to obtain the corresponding weapon or the sole source could be rendered unavailable due to the rotation of the associated content.

How you will be able to obtain the old exotics: Many Guardians are now wondering whether and, if yes, how these weapon exotics will be obtainable starting this fall. After all, some Guardians are still missing quite a few exo-weapons. Bungie has finally provided concrete details on this.
As the studio announced, none of these exotics from Destiny 2 will disappear. Only the original way to obtain them, along with their respective destinations and activity content, will be moved to the Destiny Content Vault.
However, both new and veteran players will still be able to earn these weapon exotics starting this fall. Therefore, from Year 4 onwards, every exotic weapon tied to a quest moved to the Content Vault will be available through a new memorial vendor. How this will work for raid exotics like the Anarchy remains to be seen.
This vendor will be located among the vault traders in the Tower. Bungie intends to provide more specific details on how this exotic archive will work during the current Season 11. Some old exotics from past seasons can already be acquired from the Cryptarch in the Tower.
What about the exotic masterwork catalysts? Not only exotic weapons but also numerous masterwork catalysts are affected by the content rotation and will no longer be available through traditional means with the start of Year 4.
However, all these catalysts are expected to return from the Vault in upcoming seasons and be made available with new targets (if necessary). They will not be available like the old exotics through the new memorial vendor in the Tower.
