Don’t want to miss out on the pinnacle gear in the Nightmare Hunt of Destiny 2? This week, there is a special trick to secure the coveted pinnacle loot easily. We’ll show you how.
What is pinnacle gear? If you want to level your Guardian beyond the hard cap of 950 without the seasonal artifact, you need pinnacle gear. This grants you additional power boosts after reaching the hard cap up to the pinnacle cap of 960.
Why Nightmare Hunt? Sources for pinnacle gear are limited. These powerful items are available only from the most challenging in-game activities like the Raid or the Nightmare Hunts (and yes, also from the Iron Banner).
The Nightmare Hunt is a new activity that came with the release of Shadowkeep. There, you hunt so-called nightmares, a type of manifestation of iconic enemies from the Destiny universe.
This way, you can earn a pinnacle item once a week.
What should you consider in advance? If you want to obtain pinnacle gear through the Nightmare Hunt, you need to successfully master this activity on the highest of the four difficulty levels – that is, on Grandmaster.
This can prove quite difficult and challenging. The recommended power level for Grandmasters is 980. But with a trick, the Nightmare Hunt at the highest difficulty becomes significantly easier.
Important: Choose and start the Nightmare Hunt enslavement with Zydron, the Gate Lord, as the final boss.
This will make the boss a walk in the park: You still have to fight your way normally to the boss. The trick only takes effect there.
So, you need to make your way to the underground room with the large Vex portal, where the final fight against Zydron will take place.
Once you arrive in the boss room in front of the portal and the Vex final boss has spawned, run (with your perspective looking towards the portal) left to the wall and follow it towards the entrance (away from the portal) until the natural rock wall ends and a “bricked” wall structure begins.
At the top of this structure, there is a platform that you can easily work your way up to with a few jumps. This is known as a safe spot; the final boss cannot hit you there for some reason. At least, he won’t shoot at you and will just look at you once you’re up there.

Now you can fight the boss and his minions from there, which is much easier than the often tough regular fight.
What should you consider in the boss fight? Keep in mind that the fight will take place at comparatively long distances. So, pack suitable weapons. For this, we recommend
- snipers like Izanagi’s Burden
- linear fusion rifles like the Sleeper Simulant or the fusion rifle One Thousand Voices
- but also the new exotic combat bow Leviathan’s Breath
- or the exotic trace rifle Divinity
Additionally, you should equip suitable supers that are suitable for fighting at a distance. But also stationary supers like Well of Radiance or the Titan bubble with weapons of light can prove to be quite helpful up on the platform, making the fight easier.
Also, keep in mind: Zydron will still become invulnerable during the fight and will spawn nightmare enemies that need to be eliminated in order to proceed.
That can also be done conveniently from above. So eliminate the nightmares and all smaller enemies that disturb you and then turn your attention back to the boss. If you run low on ammunition, you can quickly pick it up below and come back up.
You can also split up. One part of the players can fight from the platform, while another can position themselves left behind the portal on a small hill, from where they can also fight effectively.
